Bon jour. I am attending the 2011 Gymnaestrada in July this year and would like to know if there is a bus from College Grand Pont to the rail statioin? I will be traveling to Paris after the event and would like to know if I can take the bus to the station or, just take a taxi. Your town looks really beautiful and, I look forward to my time there.
I will be moving to Lausanne in January 2011 for doctoral studies at UNIL. Since I will be travelling to Europe for the first time, and that too bang in the middle of the winter I needed some tips on the climate during this time and the clothing I should carry. Moreover, I am coming from India, so I expect a vast change in the temperature I will experience (25deg C in mumbai to about 4deg C in lausanne).
I am planning to buy a thick jacket or coat and warm sweater (the best I can get here) and do more shopping there if needed so that I dont need to carry a lot luggage. Where can I get winter clothing in Lausanne at low prices, and what would generally be the price range in CHF?
I look forward to having a great time in Lausanne and Europe!
Lausanne looks like such a great place! But if I was to live there, would I need to learn French? Do many of the locals speak English? Id love to learn French anyway but not sure how easy it would be to get by with only english

We will be flying in & out of Zurich in March and will be travelling to Lausanne for work. We have 3-4 days of sightseeing and were wondering which are the places we could cover during this time.
Our 1st cut for the list included Interlaken, Jungfrau, Lucerne.
Given the winter season, would these places be feasible for 3 days sightseeing in March? Will it be too cold??
Thanks a ton, Eagerly looking forward for suggestions.

We will be meeting friends for one night in Lausanne. Research indicates that Lausanne is not car friendly, so we'd hope to leave the hired care somewhere safe and travel into town and our hotel by public transport. It's all new to us, so any suggestions - parking in suburbs, nearby towns, etc - as to where we could leave the car without it all ending in tears would be much appreciated. Thanks.
We will be meeting friends for one night in Lausanne. We'd hope to leave the hired care somewhere safe and travel into town and our hotel by public transport. Research indicates that Lausanne is not car friendly, and I've a few too many hysterical dinner-time stories already about car parking and the extraordinary things it does to blood pressure and to normally polite people's language. Any suggestions - parking garages in suburbs, nearby towns, etc - as to where we could leave the car without it turning into mayhem would be much appreciated. Thanks.
I am planning to leave China for Lausanne. Unfortunately, these is no direct flight to Launsanne. So I will flight to Zurich instead then to Lausanne by direct or intercity train. My question is how can i get to the Zurich Railway Station(is it called Zurich HB?) from Zurich Airport? iI this is the case, how long does it take from Zurich to Lausanne and how to book the ticket? Thank you very much!
We're probably going to take the train from Montreux to Lausanne, and then a taxi (to carry our bag) down to the port to store our bag near the ferry. Is there a place at or near the CGN ferry to store luggage? It would be for a few hours mid-morning on a Monday in April.
Apart from the lake, what else is there of interest or a "must see" in Lausanne?

7 yrs ago, we lived for aprox. 6 months in Lausanne.
I remember a department store, not very fancy, named ABC in the centre-ville.
I still have some of the merchandise we bought there in very good quality, despite all the wear-and-tear ...
As we plan to visit Lausanne next summer, could anyone please let me know if that store still exists, and if so, provide me with a link ...
Many thanks in advance,
With so many transportation options available, I need some advice on which I should go for while in Switzerland based on this tentative plan :
1) Land in Zurich, take train from Zurich to Lausanne.
2) Stay in Lausanne for 3 days, visit nearby areas such as Ouchy, Olympic museum, Musée de l'Elysée, St. Francois, Cathedral or possibly further to Chateau de Chillion, Cully and Nyon
3) Train from Lausanne to Interlaken (Stay 4 nites), visit areas around Interlaken and Lucerne
4) Train from Interlaken to Zurich for return flight back to Malaysia
Based on this, should I go for the 8 day Swiss Pass, or Tell Pass, or just buy individual tickets? Any advice would be greatly appreciated!!
We will be staying in Lausanne for about 3 days, then have another 3 days in Switzerland before flying off to Malaysia from Zurich. Would it be better to stay on in Lausanne and travel to other parts by train over the 3 days, or move to another area (nearer Zurich) for the last 3 days?
Which area would one recommend? Lucerne, Interlaken are some areas that we are considering, or even Zurich itself.
