Accomodation in or around Launceston

by Audrey118 Online Now May 25, 2005 at 1:07 AM

This is well in advance planning, but becos there will be at least 10 pax, if not 12, and during late January, it is peak season.

We will be flying in from Melbourne to Hobart, driving past Richmond to stay 2 nights in Bichenon (any accomodation tips there also welcome - we have considered Diamond Bay), and then off to Launceston for another 2 nights.

we are looking for exclusive type of accomodation where cost is irrelevant. Some accomodation does not permit children - we have one child, 10 years old travelling with us. It may be a private villa, chef runned historical home, or scenic view apartments. It need not be smack in city centre, as we will have cars...10-15 mins outside of Launceston is OK with us.

thanks in advance

My tip is the Chancellor Resort Tamar Valley Grindelwald, this is in the Tamar Valley close to the wineries, lovely countryside, it's about 30 mins into town but in itself it is a great area, in fact you will probably spend more time here that the town itself. It has a pool etc. if you prefer closer the Country Club Villas at prospect vale are about 10 minutes from town, it has pool, spa and sauna, next to the Golf Course, no problem for kids and this place actually charged less for kid's breakfast as a bonus, 4 or 5 of you can get into the big villa apartments wuith enough beds for all, so you could get away with 2 of them and for all of you probably would work out a great deal. We used www.melbourne.travelreporter.com, click on Hobart and then click for launceston, you can pay in USD but prices are based on local Australian rates as that is the market they seem to cater for so some nice deals.

Sorry didn't notice you also asked about Bicheno, there is not too much accommodation, if with a large group perhaps the Diamond Islanr resort would be best as they have 2 bedroom cottages. View of the coast, pool and tennis. You also have the Beachfront Bicheno Family Resort.

thanks for the tips - looks like Diamond Islands is the best bet for us to get there. In 1996, we did go to Bicheno and had our best green grilled lobster, and that is why we are going back this way.
We want to stay nearer to Launceston becos on that weekend, we are celebrating a fren's birthday and we want to dine at Fee and Me (something of that sounding) which has best best food.

Last year, I posted a similar question for Auckland - and VTer bjoern tipped me with Edgecliff at Bays of Islands. It was a huge private home, 4 levels - and has the best location which has stunning water views. The place is runned by a guy who used to write for the weekend Syd Telegraph, used to run a winery, and it was simply awesome. Breakfast and dinner was included in the bill, and we hardly got out of the house and spent most of our time enjoying the place and the 360 degree water view!! We are actually looking for something like this - rather than a commercial place. Liked i said, prices are really not in our mind at all.
