We (a family of 3: child 8 years + parents) are having a 15 hours stop-over in Riga the coming Sunday. As we arrive very early in the morning, expecting to have slept zero hours, our primary concern is to find a room where we can rest for some hours before doing a little sightseing.
Can you recommend a suitable hotel (clean / reasonable price, close to either airport or city)?
Next month we will travel to Latvia, driving from Estonia. Which is the best place to change currency? Are credit cards generally accepted? I mean, in hotels, restaurants, petrol stations… not for small expenses. In case we miscalculate our expenses and stay out of lati, are euros accepted?
Thanks in advance.

I was wondering if anyone knows if you can get to the lighthouse located at the beginning of the river (harbor?) as you approach Riga from the sea. It is a black and white lighthouse. We will be in Riga for one day onlu, as a stop on a cruise in late August. We had planned on taking a tour offered by the cruise line. How difficult is it to see Riga on one's own? Is it small enough that one can walk from place to place, or are we better off taking an organized bus tour which includes about 2 hours of walking around the center and the other two hours getting an overview from a bus?
We welcome suggestions from those who are familiar with the city.
Does someone know a good travel guide in Daugavpils, and the cost of one day inside the city? Thank you!

Basically, are there up to date and easy to find schedules? Does everything run on time?

I've found needed itinerary with Air Baltic at descent price, via Riga. But the time inerval between arrival to Riga and then departure to Istanbul is only 40 minutes. However Air Baltic site offers this itinerary.
I wonder if that's a good idea or it's too risky. I haven't been to Riga airport, I don't know hoe big it is.
