The more you spend gambling, the better your chance of comps. It's probably cheaper to just pay for the hotel and meals.

Yes you have to gamble but if you do make sure you sign up for a card from any of the casinos you are playing in. Some are connected to others (eg. Harrahs, Rio, Paris, etc. are one) so that playing in one gives you points for any of them. Therefore when I play in any Harrah's property here in the east I can use my comps in Vegas or any of their other properties. Even if you don't gamble signing up gives you a nice souvenir card and occasionally you get something free to go with it, even if it is just a bungy cord for the card.

Yes, make sure you sign up for the cards (you can ask a member of staff, go to the reception for information, or find the booth where you sign up). If you do not have a card - you will not get comps. The only stipulation is that you must gamble to earn points which transfer into comps. You can save up your points for free meals or accomodation. The more you gamble, the more points you earn, the bigger the comp is. Sometimes on 'The Strip', you will be given leaflets that will give you discounts off, for example, a meal or drink to entice you into that particular hotel/casino. Or find yourself (usually in the hotel lobby) a discount voucher/coupons book. Have a flick through and see if any of the discounts will apply to what you want to do in Vegas. These discounts include money off shows, trips and free entry to clubs.

The idea of the hotels was to make money. The easiest and fastest way was gambling with the house always having the edge. Those edges add up. Everyone is right about the comps. The hotel resorts casinos is where the real action is for the property. You gamble and they will notice via your card or your bets at the tables. Sometimes, you can be lucky at a table winning big and to cool you off will offer show tickets or a dinner voucher. It really works. Winners are not really liked, but the big fish are. Big fish are those that don't need a comp to be happy, but spend their money like water always believing they will win. Why, some don't even mind losing. It is for the love of gambling. The perks they get keep them in the mood. After all, they flew in on a private jet and their favorite casino wants to keep them happy. They want you happy too, but to the degree of the money you spend. So, if a buffet will make you happy, spend your dollars on slots and keep that personal rewards card in the machine to let the casino know you are having fun for a very expensive buffet. There is a lot to do in Las Vegas without gambling to get a comp, and it may cost you a lot less then looking for a comp. But hey, maybe you are the one to get lucky and break the bank. I just love fairytales. Viva Las Vegas. ;-)

You can get comps without gambling heavily. The secret is to appear to do so by churning your money. Exchange say2,000 for chips, play10 or20 and if lucky you might not lose it. Wander around for a bit, have a nibble and a drink, then cash in your chips. Go to another associated hotel/casino and repeat the process. Every time you churn your money it gets picked up by the computer and will flag you up as a potential High Roller.
