Hi, How can I make the most of 2 days in Las Vegas. I am already planning to go to the Grand Canyon as well as Hoover Dam. Please advise family friendly activities. Thanks, Neil
INCLUDING the Grand Canyon? You are aware, I presume, that The Canyon is a five hours drive EACH WAY from Vegas. That means a day trip there will require ten hours of driving. NOT what I would recommend. If you are taking one of the tours, do NOT go to the West Rim! It is NOT worth the money you will pay. Even if you take your family on a bus tour to the South Rim, you will expend a lot of time and money, and get almost as much time at the gift shop (which gives a kick-back to the tour leader for sales) as you will at the the rim. If you pay for a night at The Canyon AND rent a car to drive your family, you'll probably spend LESS money and get to see the place as it was meant to be seen. > Please advise family friendly activities. The current tourist phrase is, "What happens in Vegas, stays in Vegas." In other words, the activities you engage in while there are NOT the things you talk about when you get back to family and friends. In other words, the city makes no pretense about being family friendly. However, they DO make a concession to the fact "Sometimes what happens in Vegas, results in an event nine months later." vegas.com/attractions/kids.h... Do I love Vegas? Absolutely. Would I recommend taking small children? Possibly. But it would be near the bottom of places that I would list for "family friendly."

Check out Valley of Fire State Park. parks.nv.gov/parks/valley-of... Nice easy hikes and an incredible amount of indian petroglyphs.

It's true if you want to do the Grand Canyon and Hoover Dam, it's a full day. I did it last year and have done it previous years. I've always gone to the West Rim, I love it there! If you book on a tour, you will be picked up VERY early from your hotel and get back to Vegas for about 7pm (ish). To get the most of that day; even though you will be tired, try and see a free show on The Strip like the Bellagio Fountains, the volcano at the Mirage or The Pirates of TI at Treasure Island. The other day I would explore The Strip and what some of the hotels offer, for example, the Shark Reef in Mandalay Bay, The Lion Habitat in MGM Grand, going up the Eiffel Tower at Paris or going to the Stratosphere. These do cost money-but I found them reasonably priced. Make sure you have a little walk around at night too-you can't go to Vegas without seeing it a night! Amazing! I love Vegas and have seen many families there. Have fun! Hayley :)

That is a lot of traveling for 2 days. You can always go to a show (NOT Zumanity as it is not family-friendly). I saw Ka last year and it was G-rated. There is also Red Rock (petting zoo, old west show, horseback riding). I suppose it depends on the age of the children...
