I'll be visisting Las Vegas for the first time in the weekend of June 17th. We will be in town for 3 nights. Can anyone give me advise on the sites that are best suited for a first timer in Vegas?
Almost everything on the Strip or Downtown is suited for the first timer in Vegas! It can be most impressive by night because of the glitter of the lights. In most casinos you'll find that a novice can get information/lessons how to play the games if that is what you plan to do and don't really know how. There are massive, themed hotels to explore, food everywhere that is not too expensive and all types of entertainment, some of which is free. When you first arrive you might stop at an Information place where you can get an idea of what there is to do, besides the casinos and they usually give out free play cards or discount coupons for various things. Have fun and Good Luck!

Regarding where to stay definitely on the Strip and really let your interests and budget guide you as to the choice you make of hotel/casino. Do a quick search on www.vegas.com to see the different hotels and prices. I generally do that but book through the hotels website. We have stayed at the NYNY and the Excalibur and enjoyed both. I like themed because hey it is Las Vegas so why not. What are your interests as there is so much to do in Las Vegas? I remember having a huge list of 'to dos' before our first trip but found that it takes heaps longer in Las Vegas to do things than you imagine so don't over plan or at least make the stuff you really want to do a priority.

We stay at the Stratosphere Tower, and already visited the Grand Canyon, we drive from LA to Grand Canyon to Lake Powell to Zion Park to LV to Yosemite to SF. So in LV we have time to see all the crazy things. Can you just walk up to each hotel and have a look around? Are there things at should not be missed?

Yes, you can go into any of the common areas of the hotels. They all have a casino, restaurants, shops and some sort of entertainment that is open to the public.
