Can one walk from the airport to Excalibur?

by meteorologist1 Online Now Dec 15, 2004 at 5:36 PM

Has anyone tried to walk from the airport to Excalibur or the Strip? Do they allow it? We're leaving for Las Vegas next Monday and we're trying find a cheap way to get to the Strip from the airport. I see that the CAT busses do not serve the Strip from the airport. Thanks.

There may be a way, but i've never recalled seeing or hearing of anyone trying it. McCarran Airport is about 3 miles from the Strip and Excalibur, so keep that in mind in case this is something you can and want to do. Excalibur doesn't have any kind of private shuttle service to the airport.

Cheap way is the taxi. Only around10 for the airport to Excalibur, add a tip and max is around12. If that's not cheap enough, why go to the strip in Las Vegas, head downtown for cheap.

I believe it may be illegal to walk on the side of the roads that lead from the airport to the strip, aka hitch-hiking. That being said, I have observed too many public displays of flaunting the law and in such variety of ways (checking out the flagrant ptostitution scene in every casino bar at midnight alone boggles the mind and makes for terrific eye candy!) that it occurs that breaking the law in Las Vegas is not, in itself, against the law.

last time I went to Vegas I went on a shuttle that stops and drops people off at certain hotels on the strip. For Instance I was staying at New York New York and got a shuttle that stopped there plus at other nearby hotels. I only costs around1.50 to2.00 per person and they'll help you with your luggage and that way you'll get to see a little of the sights on the way! Just when you exit the airport there are many staff who you can ask and you'll see lots of bus/shuttle drivers standing around so just ask one of them.

Things may have changed but last time I was at the airport there was a CAT bus stop. I'm sure that lots of airport employees use the bus. It may not go directly to the strip but it will take you to Tropicana Ave and then you can walk to the strip (long 3 blocks)...or take the bus up Tropicana to the strip.

Wouldn't recommend trying to walk that....very long way to schlep you luggage. Cheapest way would be to use the shuttles. These can be caught just outside baggage claim. Fastest way would be a taxi. If there are more than 2 in the party, splitting the fare would probably be just as economical as the shuttles. That being said, once you've arrived at your hotel, cat buses run up and down the strip. Most everything is walkable, sort of.... and there is a Trolly that stops at almost all of the major hotels. Trolly is only 1.50 per person each time you hop on. Hope this helps, Enjoy your Visit

Spend a few bucks and take a cab. I was just in LV and the shuttle everybody is talking about took two hours to get people from the airport to the Gold Nugget. In a cab this is about 15-20 minutes depending on traffic and cost about12. The shuttle winds all around the strip and stops about twenty times between the airport and the Gold Nugget. I would not walk the traffic is fast and no good sidewalks, oh yeah and the heat could kill you depending on the time of year.

Thanks for all your replies. I'm in Las Vegas right now! We took a shuttle bus from the airport which was4.25 per person and it was pretty convenient. We're having a great time here. I will have lots of pics on my Las Vegas travel page when I come back. Happy holidays!
