Laoag and Vigan Tour

by yentrinidad Online Now Apr 29, 2011 at 1:06 AM

We are a group of 7 who will visit Laoag and Vigan on May 16 - 18. Since, we'll be arriving late on the 16th, we will go to Vigan the following day for a 1 day tour and on the 18th tour around Laoag City. We want to know if buses are on a scheduled trip in going to Vigan and what time is the last trip from Vigan going to Laoag? Also, how much would it cost if we hire a van? Since we're on a tight schedule and our flight going back to manila will be on the night of May 18, may we also know what nearby places in Laoag we can go. Would it still be possible for us to visit the Bangui Mills and Pagudpod on our last day?

Thanks so much in advance and hoping to hear from you.

I don't exactly know the bus sched from Laoag--Vigan and viceversa but there are frequent trips by bus between these 2 cities.Since u will be based in Laoag, just go to the Partas or Dominion bus terminal then hop on,oftentimes there is no queue of passengers.Pay the ticket to the conductor once you are in the bus already.I guess renting a private van would cost around 2-2,500(Vigan tour)but you really dont need to do so coz you can ride a tricycle or a kalesa(150.00 per hour for a city tour)Actually, you can finish a Vigan tour in just half a day.Not so much to see but must-see are Crisologo Street,Hidden Garden and Baluarte plus the Vigan old church.
Since you'll be based in Laoag, you can ride a bus going to Pagudpod and along the way there you will pass by the town of Bangui where the Bangui windmills are located. You can actually see them but not the whole structure just the propellers hovering above the trees from the roadside. If you reach the town of Pagudpud, the northwestern tip of the Philippines, make your way by tricycle to the beach resorts which are about 4 kilometers from the town proper. The Saud beach resort is a public resort which is quite OK if you want to sight-see and stroll. The Bangui windmills, all 20 of them could be seen from the beach itself. If you want to go,leave very early since it will take about 2.5-3 hrs travel to Pagudpud.Perhaps after your day tour to Vigan, you could visit the Paoay church(unesco world heritage site) in the town of Paoay w/c is about 1.5 hrs away from Laoag city.Don't miss the sinking bell tower in Laoag and the nearby St William's church.
