A group of 6-8 teens and adults will be in Wittenberg Christmas Eve and Christmas Day. We'll attend church services, but are wondering if any of the museums will be open on those days. I'm having difficulty finding information on closure days online, so any help would be appreciated. Also, will the Christmas market stalls be open on those days? Thanks!

I am looking for where to stay, restaurants, etc. in Wittenberg. I was there nearly 20 years ago though, things may have changed. My ancestor August Littmann Hoehne/Hone was born there, in 1817, I want to do some searching, can anyone advise where the City archive and Catholic church are located. We have time up our sleeves and wanted to know if it is worth seeing, we will be travelling from Berlin by train and I gather you have to get two trains to reach Quedlinberg. We would stay at least 1 night, can you give us some info and where we get off train from Berlin, etc.

Have you secured any information from the Archives that there was a concentration camp in Doelkau. I had never heard that there was one there, my family lived there from 1850-1990, when the last family member in the village died. There are relatived in Leipzig that may have some information, as they would frequently visit relations in Doelkau.

Just a tentative enquiry. I am considering a bummel around somewhere off the beaten track. Is a short (5-day) tour around the Altmark a viable option? Having studied classics (Latin, Greek and Ancient History) at university many years ago, I would like to see the museum in Stendal - and its Trojan Horse. I enjoy museums, galleries, churches and anything 'cultural'. Where else should or could I visit? I have been improving my German at my local Goethe Institut (I'm now up the Intermediate Level Hauptkurs!) so am now quite confident handling things like local transport etc. Suggestions welcome...

Dear travellers, I would like to visit the birthplace of Friedrich Nietzsche - a town called Roecken and also Naumburg, where he spent the most part of his life. A friend and I plan to take a train from Duesseldorf to Leipzig. Does anyone know of a good train or bus connection to Roecken and Naumburg from Leipzig? Would it make more sense to rent a car in Leipzig? I would like to visit: 1. The village church and cemetery in Roecken 2. Das Nietzsche-Haus, Weingarten 18, Naumburg 3. Museums, cafes, bars, restaurants etc. in Leipzig (suggestions from the local tourist office) Any other "must-see"s whilst we are in these three cities - Leipzig, Roecken and Naumburg? Hello VT members, My friend and I will take a short holiday in Germany at the weekend of Christmas. Our itinerary is Zwolle - Tecklenburg - Goslar - Osnabruck- Zwolle. We will stay in Goslar 2 nights. I would like to find out if there is a Opera playing in the surrounding area or in Goslar itself . I am writing about Magdeburg, Germany, in the mid-19th century. I would like to know what the city gates looked like. I know there are Magdeburg Gates in Moscow from the 11th or 12th century that have particular icons on it, though I've never seen a photo. Can anyone help me? Thanks.
