Trip from NYC to Lake Placid - Backpacker

by JoshC Online Now Sep 15, 2011 at 4:24 PM

Hi,

Just wondering if the Adirondack Trailway is the cheapest way to get to Lake PLacid and if there is anywhere to stay under60 a night.

Also if this location is generally backpacker friendly.

Thanks for your help,

Josh

Not sure, but you might want to take a look at a service called Ground Force One, which operates a bus from the Amtrak station at Westport, NY to Lake Placid. They have a ticketing agreement with Amtrak as well, so that tickets for a joint train and bus trip may be purchased through Amtrak. However, it is only one bus trip a day that goes there.

As with any of the Amtrak services, the ticket price will increase as the available seats sell out.

Looks like the standard Amtrak ticket price from New York City Penn Station to Lake Placid is87.
