My wife and I are going to do a road trip around Oregon in September for our anniversary and are looking for suggestions of nice places to stay in the Mount Hood area. We won't be bringing camping gear, so looking for a nice little hotel or B&B in the area with good views and opportunities for hiking and nature.

Can I buy a phone somewhere with a sim card, and at a reasonable price so that people I know may reach me ? I don't need to have lots of time on advanced purchase, that's mostly to receive calls. Can I buy it even if I'm a European visitor ? Where are the best deals ?
My husband and I are considering a move to LO within the next 6 months. Need advice on location. We like to be near town - but also would like to have a smaller place to live with some yard. We would like to be active in the community do you have any advice on housing and activities. Is the downtown lively? We are coming from a small town in CA which the town is too quiet during the early evenings hours.
