what areas around laguna are good places to live yet inexpensive.

    There is very little cheap housing in the area. Along the coast from San Clemente to Newport Beach it is expensive. If you go inland, there is some moderately cheap housing, but there is heavy competition for it among all the students at UC Irvine.
    I'd say try older areas of El Toro, but don't expect too much. Or if you can control when you move, try Irvine just after the end of a semester.

    Take a look at craigslist.org to get an idea of apartment availability and pricing in the areas that you are thinking about moving to.

    Generally, in Los Angeles at least, apartment owners are looking for tenants who have an income in ONE WEEK that is equal to the rent for ONE MONTH.
    LA, and Calif in general, have quite a housing shortage in most areas. One bedrooms that were600-$700 a few years ago are now900-$1000, and hard to find.
