Lagos - Good place to live ?

I am thinking of buying an apartment or house somewhere (I can afford) in the Algarve and was wondering if Lagos(which I have heard good things about) is as good as they make out. Would be interested to hear from residents both summer and year round. All advice appreciated Thanks JmcE
