Hi, We are going for the Hemis festival 29th/30th June. I will also do the Lamayuru to Alchi trek after that. Just wanted to know whether this trek can be done with homestays (without carrying tents) just like we did the Markha valley trel last year. Also, there are two possible routes: 1: Lamayuru -> Wanla -> Hinju -> Sumda Chenmo -> Sumda Choon -> Alchi 2: Lamayuru -> Wanla -> Urshi -> Tar -> Mangyu -> Alchi Which one will be suitable and more scenic?
Hi, I plan to travel in the third week of July(July 14onwards) and for now I have no co travellers . Any group which is headed at the same time and I can join ?

Hello, I'm going to fly from Delhi to Leh around the 6th of September, 2011 then hopefully travel by land back down South to Manali, Dharmsala etc I'm looking forward to the Ladakh festival but I'm wondering does the Ladakh festival have any bearing on finding accommodation in Leh and the Ladakh/ region? Is the festival concentrated on one specific region or spread out over the area? How big and well celebrated is it? I'd like to trek and travel in the region until the end of September then travel by road at the beginning of November. Are the roads generally still open at the beginning of October to head South to Dharmsala? Also what temperature weather is there in September? I suppose I can buy any heavy warmer gear in Leh if needs be? Thanks so much, James Read more: VT Forum temporarily unavailable

Hi friends, I m planning a trip to ladakh in June for 9 days. a frnd has suggested 1 day fr acclimatizing, 1 day for leh sight seeing, 3 days for Tsomiriri lake, 2 days for Nubra valley n 2 days for Pangong lake. How does it sound? I am in doubt about 3 days at tsomiriri? Is that required? If not, what should I cover instead? Also, is it advisable to have guide? I generally prefer to explore on my own. Bt i beleieve there might be hassells due to permits etc. So, is it possible to do a tour on my own? Thanks in advance.
Hi all, We are planning to visit Leh/Ladakh but for a very short trip 4D/5N. Given such a tight schedule, we are told that we have to choose between Nubra or Pasong? Appreciate if anyone that has visited these two places can recommend which one best to visit and if there is anyway at all that we can actually visit both in such a short trip. Could anyone also advise what is the weather like in May and what to pack? Thanks.

Dear Travelers, I'm planning a trip from Delhi to Leh (via Dharamsala) in July/August 2010. My idea is to road travel to Leh and go back via plane. I know all of it's been said before, but I'd love to hear some tips on how to get there. I'm a woman and will be traveling alone. I'm looking for the safest means possible. I'd like to avoid trains. i'd like to hear some of your suggestions on the route I should take, means of transport (buses/taxi), how to book it, how long does it take? I'd like to make a stop at Dharamsala. Is there a way of getting from Dharamsala to ladakh? Thanks so much, magicwoman
Dear forum We want to visit Ladakh for around a week to 10 days in July 2010. I know this is high season and would like to ask if we need to book accommodation and trips (by jeep etc) in advance or will we be able to get better deals on the spot? We would like to see the Nubra Valley and the Pangong Lake area.
Hi there I am a hardcore adventure loving guy. I am planning to make a record, riding Manali to Leh in a single day without halting in Sarchu or Pang with my Pulsar DTSi 180CC.I want to know is there any body who had done that? Please advise me how do I prepare for that and which time of the year will be ideal for that ride?

Hi, Can anyone tell me if it is possible to travel to the Ladakh area within two weeks in July with kids of 6 and 9? Will there be activities that they will enjoy (they like trekking but don't have as much stamina as their parents)? Is it possible to hire horses, donkeys or some such to help them with the trekking? Alternatively we were thinking of the Manali area in July? Is it still raining there in July? any other suggestions of activities to do with children in the area would be most appreciated.
hi everybody! i'm planning a trip to ladakh 18- 30 nov 2007 with a friend. the first question is about weather: do you know what we'll have to expect (which minimum temperature in leh, snow or .. what else ) ? our idea is to spend few days in the nubra valley (lonely planets says the road to get there is open, but a local agency replied to our enquiry saying that it's closed and the valley not accessible), than to organise a 5 days trekking from lamayuru to alchi .. do you think it is worth and feasible at the end of november? is there anybody who was there in the same period? can you suggest anything else in terms of places to visit and trekking? would you raccomand to go trekking with a guide? thank you in advance to everybody.. so exciting the idea to leave:-))) silvia

Seven of us intend to enter via Srinagar- Kargil. Total trip time 16 days Srinagar to Delhi From Kargil move in to the Zanskar range via Padum. Do river rafting else do a Jeep safari in Zanskar then reach Leh where we can do a simple one day river rafting Grade I-II. Go visit the highest motorable road (kardung La), Nubra valley , highest lake (Pangong) and ofcourse the prestine monastries. Return from Leh via Jispa to Manali. If poss bike it. A. How is river rafting in Zanskar- whom do i contact for the same besides(travel-himalayas.com ), how would you rate them OR B. should we change our itineary to fly in directly to Leh in lieu of going to Srinagar and driving down through Kargil ? Then go for a trek around Nubra Valley/ Markha/ 10 day Spituk to Hemis Trek. OR C. Should we continue from Srinagar- to - Kargil. The set out a trek to Zanskar Valley for 7 days. Reach Leh after the Trek ? D.As i understand from you earlier posting you mention it is easier to find deals once you reach Leh. IN case we are coming in from Srinagar - Kargil side- What do you recommend we do. Come all the way to Leh and then find a deal for treks ? e. Wangchuk you mentioned some agencies in Leh give motorbike mostly Enfield Bike on hire on per day basis. Could you elaborate on the cost ? Can we drive down Manali using this and hand over the Bikes to the their Manali office ? Is 4/ 5 bikes between 7 of us enough (as two in the team cannot drive bikes ) f. Is Leh crowded in August ? We intend to skip locations which ever are too crowded. g. Trust august 10th - 26th 2007 is a good time to pay a visit to Heaven. request you replies esp Angchuk, Wangchuk, sacs2k1

I am considering a trip to Leh mid Jan 2007. I am aware that this is not the best time to visit Leh as a tourist, but unfortunately I don’t have a choice! Are there any trekking opportunities that I could consider during this period? I will be there for 4 days. Even a short one day trek will do. I will be accompanied by my friend. We both are in a good shape in terms of physical fitness. I am based in Dubai at the moment and will be flying down to Delhi and from Delhi to Leh while my friend will join me from Bangalore. Trekking is top priority for us plus visiting the not-to-be-missed locations. It will be great if you could give me some inputs Cheers
