Market Hours and Days

by salvaca Online Now Jan 30, 2010 at 1:23 PM

We'll be arriving this summer on Saturday at about 3:00 and will need to get supplies for our apartment on Saturday or Sunday -- any tips on the best places for Saturday afternoon or Sunday? We'll be staying in Manarola but can get to La Spezia, any of the 5 towns or Levanto easily. Thanks.

You might have better luck with groceries at Manarola. La Spezia on Saturday evening is a shopping nightmare with parking lots jammed, people parked on both sides of the road (making the road very narrow), walking out in front of your car without looking. It's very competitive shopping! Be sure to get things on Saturday because most places are closed on Sunday. Do you have a car? If so, stop at the first grocery you pass on your way to Manarola. You didn't say where you were coming from so I have no idea what direction you will be going.

Hopefully someone will log on and tell you where groceries are and their hours. I'm sure something is open on Sunday but we've never had much luck and try to get things on Saturday, usually stopping on the way when we're driving there.

Good luck and enjoy your trip. It's a fabulous area. Fosdinovo is a really cute mountain town with a cantina for wine tasting that we used as lunch one day. Great views and lots of walking paths.
