There is an airport at Uyuni. Tends to be on again, off again. Aerosur fly into it from Cochabamba - or they used to. Not every day.

Unless you can fly both ways, you don't have enough time to do Uyuni. The southern 4WD loop takes 3 or 4 days. However, a quick search showed that there are flights to Uyuni now. Take a look at the last entry (from 9 Nov 2011) in this Thorn Tree Travel Forum: lonelyplanet.com/thorntree/t... . Be sure to look at the Ruta Verde link also: rutaverdebolivia.com/getting... . I have not done it myself, so I cannot vouch for the validity. You could also contact Freeman Tours or Zig-Zag Eco Tours and Treks and ask them.

I would recommend that you visit the Uyuni salt flats and drive in toward the Atacama in Chile. The salt flats south of Uyuni reach across from Bolivia into the north of Chile and are the largest in the world. The scenery is such that you feel like you are on another planet. If you are travelling from La Paz to Uyuni, you will travel by road to the town of Oruro for around three hours, and then take journey by train for about seven hours, . From Potosi, the drive to Uyuni takes around five hours. To best see the salt flats you likely need a 4WD vehicle. The area along with the Atacama is extremely remote. here is no large commercial airport remotely close to the salt flats. I have a VT page on the Putre and Luaca National Park which is slightly out of your way if you are interested. T It is under Putre, Chile.
