Logistics for Mt. Aso, Fukuoka & Nagasaki

by DSwede Online Now Jan 22, 2009 at 4:58 PM

A friend of mine will be visiting Kyushu for the Chinese New Year this weekend. He hopes to visit Fukuoka, Mt. Aso and maybe Nagasaki. Can anyone possibly tell me easiest way to travel between these three, in which order would be best?

Hi Dave I don't know how many days to spend his journey, but I would advise how to get there. To Nagasaki where the Lantern Festival will be held from Jan 26, a limited express train is used from JR Hakata station to JR Nagasaki station on the Nagasaki line in 2 hours. When he go to Aso, it better to back to Hakata from Nagasaki, then a limited express train is used from JR Hakata station to JR Kumamoto station on the Kagoshima line in 1 hour 20minutes, after that a limited express train is used from JR Kumamoto station to JR Aso station on the Hohi line in 1 hour 10minites. From JR Aso station, a local bus is available to Aso-san-nishi station in 30 minutes where is Cable car station is located. A cable car take him Mt Aso in 4 minutes where active volcano can be seen. If he has enough time to travel in Kyushu, I would like to recommend go to Beppu or Yufuin. Any further queries will be welcomed Masa
