Hi I am trying to compare travel times. I would like to know how long it takes to drive from Ercan airport to Karsiyaka (this is near Kyrenia)and also how long it takes to drive from Larnaca airport to Karisiyaka? I will not be taking a taxi. Friends will be collecting me in their car. They have told me either airport is ok but I don't want to inconvenience them if Larnaca is a much longer drive
Weird that google maps is so very poor on Cyprus, but it will give you a rough idea if you zoom in. Ercan (near Nicosia) is nearer to Kyrenia than Larnaca. The latter is also in southern Cyprus, so will involve crossing the border between the two parts.

Having said that, my estimated transfer time (for a future hol) from Larnaca to Kyrenia is around an hour. It's not a massive distance.

Ercan to Kyrenia will take you around half an hour - more during rush hour, when the road in and out of Kyrenia plus the roads near the Kyrenia roundabout in Nicosia are clogged. Kyrenia to Larnaca will take you around 1.5 hours, very much depending on the traffic on the Troodos ring road and at the checkpoint. From Kyrenia it is 15 minutes or so drive to Karsiyaka , again very much depending on traffic.

Thanks for the advice. Is it a simple procedure to cross the border or does this add time on to the journey? Don't know if it makes any difference but my friends have a car registered in Northern Cyprus.

I'm pretty sure your friends would have offered a lift from Larnaca if there were to be any problem. Presumably they live in N Cyprus? I'm on an organised tour in December, landing at Larnaca and then based in Kyrenia. The point is made that transfer across the border is simple enough (just show passport) although queues might be long at some times of day, I suppose.

For foreigners, crossing the Greebn Line is pretty simple. However Turkish citizens and Turkish Cypriots of Anatloian decent may not cross into the south. To drive you car into the south you need to pruchase insurancer at the border which is fairly expensive. Alternatively there are policies valid for an entire year. If your friends do not go to the south often they may not want to purchase insurance just for one trip to pick you up.

But as they made the offer of a lift and said either airport is ok one can, I think, safely assume that they have the insurance sorted and are happy to cross to Larnaca and back.
