Gyeongju City Tour No2 - East Sea area

by Lad_uk Online Now Jun 9, 2012 at 10:01 AM

Hi,

I'm interested in taking Course 2 : english.visitkorea.or.kr/enu...

If I'm unable to go on it, how easy will it be to do by public transport? The visit Korea site mentions buses to these sites so it looks like its possible. However, are the bus stops announced in English so that its obvious where and when to get off? Are the bus services frequent? I'll be interested in:

Gwaereung
Tomb of King Munmu the Great
Gameunsaji Temple Site
Golgulsa Temple

Thanks

Getting to the site of Munmu is not easy by public transit. However if it came to it, I would not worry about missing this stop. For an idea of what you'd miss, go to my link:

Similarly, the Gemeunsa temple is close by, so you would have the same problem here. If you go visit Bulguksa, I would not worry about going to Gemeunsa.

The tours that you are talking about are fully escorted. You will get of and back on to the same bus. You don't have to worry about which stop since the stops are only the listed destinations in the tour.

Thanks, DSwede. I've had a look at your travel page and it looks like there isn't much to see at the Underwater Tomb of King Munmu! I thought there may have been more to it. As I'll be visiting Bulguksa Temple, its good to know that I wouldn't be disappointed if I didn't go to Gemeunsa.

Having said that, I've factored in a day to see this area. If I couldn't get on an escorted tour, it looks like I can catch bus #150. Whilst on the bus, would the stops be announced in English so that I know when to get off?

    Thanks.

The bus stops are not announced in English, but thankfully the signs and landmarks are close enough to be visible from the bus that you'll know you are in the right place.

That's a shame. I was hoping there would be announcments either on signs inside the buses or recorded voices for the next stops (like I've seen in some other cities). I suppose I have to keep my eyes peeled for the signs and landmarks!
