About Kuta

by Guane Online Now May 21, 2004 at 10:12 PM

I'm going to Bali (my 1st trip, in mid June 2004) with my wife on a free-n-easy 4D/3N package tour & my tour agent had booked us at Hotel Kuta Paradiso, saying that its right smack in the middle of Kuta. Anybody know about this hotel... is it good? Any recommendation how best to visit Bali within the 4 day duration? Heard the elephant safari is good, so too is a viosit to Tanah Lot. How about shopping & entertainment? Pls advise

4 days is really not vey long. I hope you are not travelling far for it. The great part about Bali is that it is easy to get around. Just go outside of your hotel and listen for the calls of "Transpot" and negotiate a price then head off. In Feb we were paying about20AUD for the full day, car and driver. Tanah Lot is a must see but not until sunset so combine a trip to maybe Kintimani or Mt Batur, taking in Besakih Temple, heading back through Ubud. There really is so much to see. Shopping in Kuta is fantastic. Head to Poppies Lane for the markets and if they don't have it, you don't need it. Frankly, I'm no great fan of Kuta, I much prefer the quieter Eastern side of the island at Sanur, but it is an exciting destination. If you want to get some recommendations on the hotel try balitravelforum.com

Tanah Lot is just 1 of several temples on the island. You shouldn't miss their main temple Besakih. As to entertainment, you ought to watch the "barong" and "kechak" dances for a really cultural experience. I enjoyed watching them when I went there back in 1995. I'm not familiar with the hotel you mentioned but if it's in Kuta then it's in the shopping district which is just 5-10 mins. from the airport.

Very nice hotel we haven't stayed ourselves but know quite a few people who have. I would also advise you to hire a car and driver and negotiate a price when we were there in Feb 04 we were continually bombarded with drivers offering us a full day of car and driver hire for US$10. This was just on the street along from the Paradiso. Don't negotiate with driver's at or just outside the hotel as they will assume if you stay in a flash hotel you have bags of money. As we have been to Bali on several othr occasions we did not take them up on their offer but if they tourist numbers are still down i am sure they are open to negotiate. Tanah Lot is very impressive when the tide is in or out. If you want some fun try Waterbom Park and as previously stated Poppies Lane 2 for anything you need.

The Kecak Dance is performed at the Uluwatu Temple and you may want to go tere just before sun sets for to catch the beautiful sunset and the dance (open air). Mount Agung is nice too. Tanah Lot is a must. There are a lot of cab drivers and bemo drivers who will be more than willing to organise a trip for you. You must ask for the price first though. If you stay longer, I will also recommend Island Lembongang which is an island near Bali and it is beautiful too. Kuta area is the most lively area as all the shops, bars are there. Bali is also a place for you to stock up some surf wear. Other than sightseeing, there are other activities you may want to do. There are surf schools, water rafting is possible down Agung River, snorkelling, parasailing, body surfing, etc. Enjoy Bali. Regards, B

I wont put in any info about where to visit as the rest have put quite a lot as it is. as for the hotel - its is right smack near the kuta beach (5 to 10 mins walk away) and its pretty good.. its 5* if im not mistaken... i stayed there last year and it made the trip worthwhile. Just makes sure its Kuta Paradiso and not Legian Paradiso which is the 3* hotel. have fun.

Kuta Paradiso is a good hotel. I've stayed there back in 2000. It is right smack in the middle of Kuta, the shopping area, but you have to walk a little to the beach. The hotel was managed by the Spanish Sol group, I don't know if it still is. The hotel's standard is 5 stars but don't go expecting the same 5 stars standard as the 5 stars hotels in Nusa Dua, but the hotel is still nice nonetheless.
