    • Singapore to Mersing

      Mersing Mar 26, 2014 at 11:13 AM

My husband and I will be visiting Tioman Island and we were planning on flying there from Singapore, however due to Berjaya air cancelling their service will now need to go by ferry. We land at Singapore airport at 07.15am on 10 April and I'm having trouble finding the best route to the Mersing Ferry Jetty. Would anyone be able to advise on the best trip in the current situation?

Changi airport offers a coach service to Kotaraya II terminal. Is it easy to get from there to the Larkin Bus Terminal (is this now called Larkin Sentral, and in a slightly different place), or should I instead take a bus or taxi into Singapore center and take a bus from there to Larkin?

Which coach should I take from Larkin to Mersing? Do I need to pre-book? I understand booking from Mersing back to Singapore would be a good idea to make sure you have a seat.

I'm of a mind to take a taxi to not have the hassle of all the changing and making sure we get to the jetty on time (even though I still don't know what time the boat leaves, that's another interesting part of our journey!). I have been offered a pre-booked return (Changi-Mersing-Changi) for S$350; is that reasonable or should I look for local taxis instead?

Thank you in advance for your help!

However I don't know how much US dollar that a foreign tourist allowed to exchange in a Malaysian Bank or licensed money changer ? I affaird that the authorities would suspect me as illegal money trader

      Hi all,
I'm travelling around South east asia for several months, during june-july-august it seems to be the rainy season around south east asia and also the high season because the europeen and north american holiday. I saw than Malaysia is the only country with no rainy season in august, but what about the high season? and do the prices are very high during the high season? like the double and more than the low season?

Also, what do you recommend if a friend of mine come to visit me in Malaysia but she has only 2 weeks? A bit of culture, beach, snorkelling, shopping?

And last question, Is Malaysia a safe country? Because I read a couple of bad experience and rumor about Malaysia.

Kuching - Sibu ferry or flight

by lhotsky Online Now Mar 20, 2014 at 3:09 AM

      Hi,

we will travel Kuching - Sibu in August to make trip up the river. We dont expect to stay in Sibu and continue to Song or Kapit (and Belaga later). I think about two ways:
      1) Ferry - It would take 5 hr, so about early midday in Sibu.
      2) Flight - MASwings has cheap flight, early morning, so let say 9am be in Sibu. The prize is twice as much as ferry (?)
      My questions:
      - what are pros and cons except time? MASwing safe? Ferry trip boring?
      - If using ferry from Kuching, can we get into Song in the same day? Perhaps if fly we should stay in Sibu until ferry come from Kuching and follow with the same boat, so loose anyway?

      Thanks

      Thanks a lot

White Water Rafting in Sarawak ?

by kentut_besar Online Now Oct 3, 2012 at 8:18 AM

Hi, I enjoyed Kayakking 11 km along Semenggoh River during my Kuching trip in July earlier this year.

My Rainforest kakis & I will be back next July 2013 & we were hoping to do White Water Rafting this time. Who the reliable White Water Rafting operators in Sarawak we could link up with ?

2nd query => we would like to go to a proper native spa to do some Sarawak specialty treatments. Any good recommendations for this & would they have a link/website we could check ?

Lastly => we would like to do a day climb up & down Mt. Santubong, maybe start in the morning & finish in the evening, along with pick-up & return to hotel. Any safe & reliable operators to recommend for this ?

Thanks in advance to all members who can assist us with these queries.

I'm in the midst planning for my trip to Kuching in March next year. Initially it was a tour-around-city plan, but now it expands and I'm thinking of visiting Bako National Park and Damai Beach as well. Just a few quick questions:

      1) Is there any local tour operator that provide tour to Bako and/or Damai (plus Orang Utan Sanctuary) for ONE pax?

      2) My plan is to visit Sarawak Cultural Village before proceed to Bako National Park and will then stay overnight at Bako National Park. Same question again, is it safe for tourist travel alone? any tour guides provided by the Park management? How's the charges like?

      3) For destination above, is there any transportation included back and fro Kuching city, which is value-for-money for ONE pax?

do any members of VT have any experience or stayed at the 360 EXPRESS hotel in Kuching(not to be confused with the 360 Hotel)

it looks ok from the photos, but it also looks like a glorified version of Tune hotels.

also i cannot see a wardrobe or windows in the photographs. my wife and i are planning to stay in Kuching for 5 days and although we have stayed overnight in Tune hotels we think it is a bit cramped for 5 nights, so we are a bit worried 360 EXPRESS hotel may be similar.

suggestions for nice guesthouse would also be appreciated.

      Hi,

a few questions here, hopefully fellow VT-ers can assist.

My partner and I will arrive in Kuching in late Nov. We have drafted an itinerary as below.

Arrival day - explore Kuching City
Day 2 - Bako National Park
Day 3 - Kubah National Park or Gunung Gading
Day 4 - half day at Damai beach and the Orangbutan Sanctary and return to Kuching city
DAy 5 - remain in Kuching city and catch return flight in noon

      My questions :-
      1. Given the above itinerary, is it worth while to rent a car to drive aroung?
      2. are the routes to the national parks well paved and easily navigate (with clear signage?)
      3. Are there any car park charges at the National Parks?
      4. We are looking at Pinnacles Kuching along Jalan Borneo (any negative remarks about the lodge or the area)
      5. Do you I can fit into a longhouse tour in any of the days above?

      Thanks is advance
