Hotels, Main Street Downtown, Distances

by Rumi-fan Online Now Jul 9, 2012 at 1:28 AM

Greetings: I'm going to KL on business and need a decent hotel to stay 3-4 star in downtown area. Also, what is the name of the main shopping/business precinct? And, what is the distance from downtown to Taylors University/College? Are taxis safe and reliable? Any advice welcome. Thank you

I'd recommend either Crowne Plaza Mutiara or Crown Regency. I liked Crown Regency better because it's closer to the Petronas Twin Towers. Taxis are generally safe, though you'd probably want to be aware of the following: 1. Insist on using the meter. Some drivers just charge you with a fixed rate. 2. Some drivers pretend to be lost and go in circles. They to this to increase the distance covered hence the fare also goes up. Malaysians are good people. You can always ask around should you need any help. Hope this helps. Enjoy!

    > Malaysians are good people Except many taxi drivers? ;-) But then, most are forced into the situation by having to lease taxis/taxi permits from blood sucker permit holders! :( I would recommend the Concorde Hotel (renowned for its coffee house food!). BTW the main business district is called the Golden Triangle. Ask the hotel concierge for the nearest shopping mall.

We stayed at the Sheraton Imperial. Although part of a large chain, we could not forget we were in Malaysia. The breakfast was quite amazing with almost every kind of cuisine on offer you could imagine. Have a look at my VT page: Kuala Lumpur Hotel Tips by Flying.Scotsman Enjoy your stay and take time to wander about Chinatown and Petaling Street. Bruce

Thank you for this advice. This "Golden Triangle", what are the street names of this area? This information would help me to choose a hotel near there.

Actually, there are two Taylor University College campuses in the Klang Valley.. one is the new campus near Sunway, and another one is in Subang Jaya. Both are in the sub-urban of KL city center, around 30km. Yes, you can get a taxi there. But be aware that the traffic is horrible in the morning between 7:30am to 9:30am. Sometimes it is difficult to get taxi during the peak hours. If you have important meeting, consider staying in Sunway or Subang. Bukit Bintang is in between Jalan Sultan Ismail and Jalan Bukit Bintang. Shopping malls like Pavilion, Lot 10, Times Square, Sugai Wang, BB Plaze, IT Mall Lot Yat.. etc.. Jalan Alor is the food streets, don't miss.
