ello, I've recently joined the VT group & since I would be making a trip to Kl along with my girlfriend I was eagerly browsing the site for detailed infos. I found er comments on most post & being a local thought you might be able to help plan our trip.. the trip was a last minute call thus lack of research ..however since we still have a few months time..I'm confident we can enjoy our short stay at KL. our flight arivves at KLIA @2345 hrs local time on 2nd & we depart @ 1535 HRS from KLIA on 5th.. as you can see we basically have 3rd, & 4th..5th will gone with making way from hotel to airport & checking in.. it's important to note the trip is a budget trip & we would like to balance luxury with cost..i.e cost effective. I have the following queries for you: 1. which hotel should we stay in & which location should we choose our hotel? ( approx 150-200RM per night) 2. with just 48 hrs in hand..how would ya recommend we spend our time , can we venture outside KL ? 3. reaching in early morning , what would be the best possible & economical way to make our way to hotel from airport.? 4. do we have to make the tour bookings beforehand or can be done after reaching malaysia? 5. finally, where to shop & where to eat local delicacies? any response will be highly appreciated . cheers ROY
1) Bukit Bintang area is the right location to stay, nearby Jalan Alor (food street), shopping mall (Lot 10, Sungai Wang, Times Square, etc), and Monorail to connect with LRT and etc. No problem to get hotel around your budget! 2)If I were you, I spend one day in KL to explore the City. You can consider going to Cameron Highland, Malacca, or Genting Highland... depends what you want to see. Book it in advance.!! agoda or asiarooms. 3) I think the cheapest way is taking the Airport Coach http://www.airportcoach.com.my/. Only spend Rm10 per person to reach KL Sentral, then take a budget taxi to your hotel, don't know how much?? i think less than RM30. If you take a taxi, it could easily cost you RM100++ , but it would fast and easy. 4) Not sure, but I think you should book it in KL... many travel agencies in Bukit Bintang area. 5) Still Bukit Bintang, Jalan Alor has many local and international food stalls and restaurants. There is a nice food court at the basement of Lot 10 shopping Mall, not to miss.. Chinatown should be a good place to look for good food as well.. it depends what you like to eat..

Have a look at Merdeka Square and the nearby moorish building's of KL's train station, visit the Lake Gardens. Visit China Town and Little India, visit the twin towers. Maybe do half day tour to Batu Caves.

Ok, IMO catch the bus from airport to Sentral station then monorail, or transit system. Cheaper hotel.s are located in Chinatown area but we stayed in Bukit Bintang at a guest house. Good food in Chinatown and also Jalan Alor in Bukit Bintang area. I would put a visit to the Hindu Temple complex first on the list, it is called Batu Caves and it is the last stop on one of the railway lines from Sentral, (less than 30 minutes) but go in the morning before it gets too hot. \petronas Towers are closed on Mondays but if you are going to visit get there before 7am and queue for your allotted tour time as they limit the number of visitors each day and if you get there too late, bad luck. Not necessary to book a tour before you arrive there.

If you do want to go out of KL for the day you can go to malacca. It is a 2hr bus ride south and has alot to see from the Town Square with the old dutch church and walking China Town...If you take taxies try to get them to use there meter..In KL the goverment requires this. If you have to bargin you will be overcharged. If you want to go someplace in the taxi ask the desk staff at the hotel where you want to go and they should be able to tell you what the taxi rate should be...Happy travels.
