Hotel recommendation - KL and Penang

by visit2010 Online Now Jan 21, 2012 at 11:54 PM

I am looking for a decent budget hotel for about30 near KL Sentral or other locations with easy access to public transportation. Mostly, my plan is to arrive at KL early in the morning and go to Penang by an overnight train on the same day. So, i would like to know if there is any hotel which can accommodate this schedule or consider as 1 night stay. Then, I will be spending 2-3 nights at Penang and would like to book a hotel room for30-$35 budget in a quiet location and with easy access to attractions. Any information is appreciated.

Hi! For Penang, I suggest Hutton Lodge : http://www.huttonlodge.com/. I stayed there last 2 years on my trip to Penang and really like to location where I can walk to main attractions both old area and modern area. Room 's simple, clean and quiet.Staff 're also nice and informative.

Hi - for Kuala Lumpur I suggest the MyHotel@Sentral. It's literally a two minute walk around the corner from where the KLIA trains and buses stop. A double en suite room there was RM108 when we last stayed there at the beginning of December 2011. It was clean, rasonably spacious and very quiet. There are reviews on Tripadvisor at tripadvisor.com/Hotel_Review... Hope that helps.

Thanks for the suggestions Pattayaraj and Borisborough :) Pattayaraj - I am going to look in to your choice. Boris - MyHotel looks very reasonable choice considering the location and budget. Can I walk from the KL Sentral station using the sidewalk or do I need to get on a cab? Cheers!

In Penang we stayed at Red Inn Heritage (an upgraded version of the Red Inn) located in Georgetown. As with all Georgetown hotels, it is conveniently located, walking distance from many sights. Since it is not on the main Lebuh Chulia therefore a calm and quite too. I believe it will be under your budget also...

Hotel Continental or Hotel Malaysia are pretty cheap and easy access to hawkers foods, restaurant, shopping mall and bars/pubs.

Thanks for the suggestions, Mozumbus and Winnie :) Winnie - I tried to book at Hotel continental, but it was sold out for my travel dates. I might try again. Hotel Malaysia seems little bit over my budget.

Try 1926 Heritage Hotel. The location is good and convenient to get foods. When are you coming to Penang?

Hey Jay, not sure about Feb 2013 as normally if the Chinese New Year falls on the first week, it means the prices for all the hotels shot up so high and fully book at that time. Anyway please let me know earlier so that i can look around some nice and average hotels for you.
