For December is better looking at Langkawi – an archipelago made up of 99 islands on Malaysia's west coast as East Cost is off-limits. Plenty of choices of accomodations for kind, style and budget. IMO Malaysia is quite safe, transport are good, you should not find any problem.

Consider Sarawak, Malaysian Borneo, the land of the headhunters. We had a few days in Kuching last year, some good urang atang sites.Photo on my page.s

I would suggest Penang Island(Pearl of Orient), there are so many places of interests, the beautiful beach at Batu Feringhi, have the view of beautiful penang at Penang hill, everywhere you can find delicious halal and nonhalal food..shopping at pasar malam and big shopping mall. transportation and hotels not a problem..Penang island, the most suitable place for family outings. Please see Penang travel guides to read more..tq

Depends on what you are looking for? Food/a microcosm of culture? Or beaches/laid back Malay environment? Penang for the former, Langkawi for the latter.. If Langkawi look up my Langkawi page for a children friendly place with great Malay hospitality, to stay.. And lots of family activities to do in Langkawi - great sunsets at that time of the year, too! :-)

Have been to Malaysia early this year with 1-year daughter and wife, can can share my experiences: Kuala Lumpur: assuming that you will be coming from abroad, KL will be inevitable due to logistics (most international airlines will fly in/out of KL). spending a couple of nights in KL would not be a bad idea, however, you suggest you to do that at the tail end of your trip. Although there are many attractions around KL but if you do other cities/places that I would either stick to shopping or to the Sunway Lagoon; a theme park (water rides, etc). Langkawi: As already suggested above, Langkawi is treat for beach lovers. Although we did not Langkawi, however, I would recommend you doing that. There are a couple of issues though; the first is about logistics. There are train/bus transfers from KL to the place where you get Langkawi ferry. bus route is long and tiring but doable. The other alternative is cheap Air Asia flight from KL to Langkawi island. Second issue is related to culture; since Langkawi is an excise free port (?) which effectively means cheap alcohol and related accessories. This might not suit to some Muslim families. Having said that, I understand Langkawi is worth a visit and the above issues can be minimized, imo. 2-3 nights will do it. Penang: Penang is favourite among many travelers, epsecially among those who want to try different food varieties, ranging from continental to Chinese to Malay to Indian! People who are intersted in heritage also love the island as there are various building belonging to English colonial era, ornate temples, and Chines clan house. Frankly speaking, I see little for Indo pakistani family travelers in Penang apart from the fact that the island is tourist friendly and has got appropriate infrastructure. I would do Penang for two reasons: to catch around sunset time ferry from Langkawi to Penang and to ride the funicular that climb up the Penang hill. And I have yet to do both. 1-2 nights Cameron Highlands: My personal pick is Cameron Highlands, which was strongly recommended to us by the VTer sheherezad! a fantastic place indeed, especially for families. Highlands enjoy cooler temperature and make a perfect combination with hot and humid islands (Langkawi and Penang). There are a lot of natural activities in Cameron Highlands which can be done easily with the family. 2-3 nights Based on the above I would suggest you the following: Day 1: land in KL. preferably take a flight to Langkawi the same day. If not possible, then stay overnight and take the flight next morning Day 2: Langkawi Day 3: Langkawi Day 4: first half Langkawi and then take ferry to Penang Day 5: Penang. stay in Geroge town Day 6: Penang to Cameron Highland by bus Day 7: Cameron Highalnd - Mild jungle trekking and walks (Mardi) Day 8: CH - Half Day tour (25 RM) Day 9: CH - KL early morning by bus Day 10: return flight in the evening or the next morning Hope this helps Muzzammil

Cameron Highlands: CH is a hill station and consisted of several towns. Tanah Rata is the main town which has many budget and high end accomodations. There are many things to see in CH including Jungle Trekking, picturesque Tea Plantation, strawberry farms, rose farms, insect and butterfly farms, etc etc. There are a host of travel operators in CH which run pre-arranged itineraries everyday on reasonable prices. We took half a day tour from CS Travels and that was good. Penang: Georgetown is the activity center of Penang and there are many budget accomodations available, especially around Lebuh Chulia. There are so many things to do there and to choose from, you can see Penang page on VT for more details. Genting: Most people do genting as a day trip from KL. We have not been to Genting, but I understand there is a cable car, a casino, and a theme park. Langkawi: please see VT Langkawi page for details,

You definitely need to dedicate a day or two to Kuala Lumpur, the capital city. You will most likely fly into that city any. You should visit the Petronas Twin Towers and Central Market. YOu should also consider Penang, Melaka and Langkawi. Penang and Melaka are both full of history and several attractions to visit and activities to experience. Langkawi is a beautiful island, definitely try the Langkawi Cable Car.
