Me (54 years old, living in Munich) plan a journey to SA in February. In Johannesburg, I want to rent a car and drive to the Kruger National Park, too. But I will stay there only during the daytime (maybe twice), and only in the western part. Is for this short trips a Malaria prophylaxis necessary? If yes, can I buy the pills in a pharmacy? And without prescription? Thanks, Klaus
I'll try and answer all your questions here. Malaria mosquitoes normally only appear when it is very hot and windstill and at night. I would suggest you take a tour into Soweto. It is an enormous place and the tour guys know exactly where to go and what is open and what not. The Pilansberg area and Sun city are very expensive. I don;t know about anything cheap in the area. I have done a couple of searches before for the area and couldn't find anything . Soembody else might know. I would be interested to know as well. Hope it helps.
