Nice Restaurants In Old Town

by anniebannie1981 Online Now Jul 22, 2012 at 9:46 AM

Wondering if anyone can recommend a nice and reasonable restaurant around the Old Town. I don't like fish, but I eat pork, ham and chicken.

I'm a big fan of Chimera, which is just off the main square. The self-service lunch in the courtyard is very good value with an excellent selection of dishes - signed in English and Polish. No booking just grab a free table and then colledct your food from the servery. For an evening dinner the basement restaurant is also excellent - a bit more expensive but still very good value. Here's my review - Chimera: "Polish Goose and Hungarian Wine :)" - Chimera Tip by johngayton And the Chimera website - http://www.chimera.com.pl/ Another place I like is the Oldsmobile pub just off Florianska (the street that connects the main square to the Florian Gate. They do very reasonable Polish dishes such as Pierogi and Bigos and the pub itself is characterful - here's my review - Oldsmobil Drinks Bar and Pub: "One of Krakow's Proper Pubs!" - Krakow Restaurant Tip by johngayton

the old town is bursting with restaurants - some a bit expensive, especially around the rynek, but you will find prices are overall very reasonable compared to Western Europe. It is difficult to make a recommendation given the huge amount of places if you do not give a hint what exactly you are looking for - Polish food, fusion, international, some other ethnic cuisine....? if you find it difficult to make up your mind when just strolling through the old town, have a look at the print or online version of "Krakow in your pocket" - they are regularly updated and generally spot on.

Thanks for the info. Any nice Chinese restaurants you could recommend. It seems to be a tradition when we're away to have one night for a chinese.

I don't recall seeing a Chinese restaurant in Krakow. I'll check with a friend of mine who lives there and get back to you - might take a day or two.

There is a Chinese restaurant fairly close (about a block or two) up Karmelicka from the planty area. I don't know if it was any good though

There is a Chinese restaurant at ul Starowislna when you head out to Kazimierz, another off ul Dietla, also when heading to Kazimierz. Don´t expect authentic Chinese food though - most of them cater for the afraid-to-eat-spicy Polish palates, plus are run by Vietnamese (not that Vietnamese food is not delicious, but again, it´s hard to get the real stuff in Poland)
