Better time to visit?

by ptitterington Online Now Jun 22, 2012 at 2:30 PM

Over the last dozen years, I have visited Prague, Krakow, budapest, Barcelona, Madrid, Sofia most a few times with my work colleagues always mid January. 2010 we visited Krakow again but it was quiet. We can go any time from september to march so wanted to know when would be the best time to visit. I think late January when we usually travel suffers from holiday hangover! We are definately returning to Krakow, just need a reason for a specific date! Thanks

probably the best time to travel to europe is mid march it is not hot yet and the cold season is over with and it is still low season in most places i have made many trips to europe in that time and always enjoyed it

Have to agree with mid march. Unless you want winter sports, you will be dissapointed. Spring/summer is much nicer

I much prefer to visit all European destinations well out of season. January in Krakow will be cold, possibly snowy (no guarantees) but if you are happy to dress appropriately and know there will be less daylight then why not? Personally, I'd prefer March, simply because of more daylight and (potentially) a bit more greenery in the Planty. Krakow will certainly be quiet in January. That very much appeals to me but may not appeal to others.

I travel to Europe typically in late May and early September because it hits 2 US holidays, if you stay outside the summer months of June-August you should be able to find better prices, smaller crowds because kids and college students are back in school (at least American ones are) but the weather is still nice enough. A lot of what makes Krakow lovely to visit is just walking around the city, Sept will likely have nicer weather than March but September will probably be a bit more crowded than March.
