Please share with me and others information on how are you going to get to the 6th official European Virtual Tourist Meeting which will take place in krakow on 28-30 May 2010? I put some info on my homepage but I need your help to update it. Just a few specific questions: - how to find out the best air fares to Krakow from overseas (Australia, USA, Canada, Argentina, South Africa etc. etc.)? - when and where to book flights to Krakow? - what internet pages do you use to find your flights? Best regards, And again: you are welcome to Krakow very much! :-) Matt + Urszula.
Around 100 km

It's around 100km, Lori, about an 1 -1.5 hrs drive. Hence the taxi cost. Train or bus would be cheaper, obviously. Bus info here: katowice-airport.com/en/pass... Train info: polrail.com/sections/travel/...

if you take a cab then it´s good to book it in advance according to my polish friend. he says that late in the evening the taxi drivers hanging out around the aiport will sometimes take you for a ride in more than one way, so you should book in advance with a reputable company according to him.

Thanks j. I was getting a little freaked out. I was just in the process of looking at the bus or train options. Thank goodness we have time to take the train the day we arrive and the day we depart.

I just booked the transfer 300pln around 75 euros, and as we arrive late they will bring the keys of the apartment (so no worries of a night out as in Berlin lol) If you are tired after a long trip a transfer is not a bad option, Lori. But you can leave all that for later when you come for dinner ;-)))) we can check it online hehehehe

Hans and I just checked our plane tickets. We go from Toronto to Warsaw and then a plane Warsaw to Krakow which is local, arriving at the Balice KRK Airport which we found out is 17 Euros from the airport to the Center.

Balice airport is much nearer Krakow than Katowice. If you don't want to pay for a transfer you can just get bus a from outside arrivals or train. It's about 10 minutes walk from Krakow railway station to Rynek Glowny (the main square). I took the bus in and the train back when I visited. Train was faster, but bus allowed me to see more of the city outskirts. krakowairport.pl/en/60/4/176... has details in English.

Hi J Thank you again for checking for us Yes I have just researched the tranportation from Balice Airport to the Rairoad station in Krakow by train at very little cost Also a bus ticket at 0.8 Euro that can be payed to the bus driver . So no worries we arrive and we leave in the middle of the day at and from Balice Airport so we will see what we'll do Taxi Bus Or train . Now of to write an E-mail . Hansi

For those going from Krakow to Lviv (and back) by train. I will ask you probably in a few weeks by e-mail to decide which train on which day and what compartnemt do you want to book/buy. No hurry, but please discuss it here and think over it. Hugs, Matt.

Diana, just to repeat what Matt said, I am definitely going to Sibiu and have already booked flights and accommodation. I'm flying from Lviv at 6.30 on the morning of June 3rd and arriving in Timisoara at 8.00. There's an option of a flight or train from there to Sibiu but I've decided to take the train to see some of the countryside. There are flights back from Sibiu to London, Munich and other places. Check BLue Air and Tarom. Looking forward o seeing you :)

Great for you ladies Katherine & Diana I think Wikepedia should change their website ,ThisI copy and pasted from Wikepedia from Google . WARNING: Lviv airport will be closed for approximately 4 months from April 2010 to allow construction work on the runway. In the meantime flights will be diverted to the airports of Ivano-Frankivsk or Lutsk. This is one of the projects in the preparation of Lviv as a hosting city for the European Football Cup of 2012.Notice - due to a statement of Lviv`s Mayor A. Sadovy of Dec. 19th 2009 there won`t be a closure in 2010 and reconstruction will be done during normal business of the airport! But there may be a partial closure in 2011! But two posting abobe this in Google it says that the Mayor of Lviv has asked the president of the Ukraine NOT to close the Lviv Airport in April 2010 Looks like you flying from Lviv ladies . Hansi

Here is the website where the Mayor of Lviv writes NO closure of the Lviv Airport for reconstruction . kyivpost.com/news/nation/det... Hansi

Hansi, I've just checked official webpage of Lviv airport (mostly in Ukrainian language) and under Nowiny (News) there is no information on any closure there. Just info for investors’ involvement in construction of the new terminal at the “International Airport “Lviv” State Enterprise. Well, the Airport area in Krakow is growing now, too (they construct new roads from nearby motorway and from Krakow center) but no-one even thinks over closing it. Matt.

I know Matt I know Please read my last posting the link to the website ,that shows that the Mayor of Lviv asked the President of the Ukraine NOT to close the Lviv airport in April. I did my homework when I read from Katherine and Diana that they had booked the flight from Lviv to Sibiu All is well I just think that Wikepedia should delete the warning about the Lviv Airport closure . Hansi
