there's a chance I might be Krakow for a month or so this summer - what are some good weekend trips in Poland and neighboring countries? What would you do?

Hello Adrienne :-) A few suggestions of trips from Krakow: 1. Zakopane and the Tatra Mountains (cable car to Kasprowy Wierch summit - 1925 m, mountain lakes, unforgettable views) + nearby village of Chocholow (old, wooden houses) 2. Wroclaw 3. Warsaw (3 hrs by train) 4. Beskidy Mountains in south Poland 5. Olomouc, in Czech Republic And many more places. You can buy Lonely Planet: Country and Regional Guide: Poland for 10.39 pounds in http://www.amazon.co.uk and check pages on Poland on VT. You are welcome :-))) Greetings from Poland. Any more questions? Matt.

I also agree about the Tatra Mountains. Got some great views from that peak - when the fog cleared. :)

same here:) The top 3 places to visit in Poland in my Opinion: 1)Tatry Mountains- try to get on the cable car in Kuznice(2 km south of Zakopane) at around 6 in the morning, that way you won't have to wait long in line. The cable car will then take you to the summit of Kasprowy Weirch(1985m)which has the highest space observatory in Poland-it's located at it's summit. Don't forget to look at all those beautiful mountains! 2)Weliczka Salt Mine- The Weliczka salt mine is located 15 km south east of Krakow. It is the oldest operating salt mine in Poland and is one of the most unique..why? because you can take a tour(roughly 2 hours long)135 m down the mine. You will see the world's largest underground chapel-filled with chandelliors, statues and floors all made of salt! After the tour, you will be able to buy souvenirs like petrified amber and almost anything made out of salt! U can even lick the walls to taste the salt, but don't becuase Welickza gets a lot of tourists:) 3)Tarnow- besides Krakow, this is the best city in Poland! You can be able to visit the 13 th century cathderal which is next to the Ratusz which is in the center of the city. After that, you can climb St.Martin's Mountain(365m)to see the ruins of the 13 th century Lelitwa castle. Many treasures are still being found around the castle, maybe you'll get lucky:) Don't forget to go fishing in the Dunajec River(3 km west) becuase it has a very large variety of fish, don't swim in it though becuase the current is very fast:)
