We only have on night in Hong Kong, on a Saturday in July, and was wondering if you can buy the traditional women's embroidered dresses and blouses at the temple street night market? We are getting to hkg pretty late, 5:30pm, and with checking into our hotel and getting into the city I am estimating we won't get to the market till 7:30 or 8.

      Hong Kong to Beijing

Hong Kong May 4, 2013 at 3:51 PM

Looking at my options for travel methods. We are flying into HKG from Canada and staying at the YMCA Salisbury (Kowloon). If we want to travel to Bejing in 1 day (not overnight train, and yes we'll have our visas), is it easy enough to get some sort of shuttle from our hotel to either Guarngzhou aripoort or Shenzhen airport? The cost seems to be cheaper than flying from HKG, by a few bucks or more, maybe. I looked for a bullet train but we'd still have to get to Shenzhen for that anyway and I'm not sure how reliable they are.We are also going to spend a couple days in Pingyao (via Taiyuan airport), 3 or 4 nights in Zhangjiajie (either direct or through Changsha?), and either an afternoon or max 1 night in Xi'an, and we're travelling by air (preferred) or train (not overnight though). So, here's me trying to juggle the routing around, see what flows better. Suggestions? Also, I need clarification on how traveling from Kowloon to mainland China works, with respect to either Guranzhou airport or Shenzhen (which is easier, less complicated, cheaper?). Thanks!

      Kowloon Hotels with Harbour View

Hong Kong May 2, 2013 at 9:28 AM

Doing some research on hotelswith a view of Victoria Harbour from the Kowloon side. The lowest price hotel with a ROOM with a harbour view is the YMCA Salisbury, and I've booked it but they tell me that most of their 'partial harbour view' rooms will be under renovation while I'm there in September thus I'll likely have no view at all BUT what about other hotels? I don't wish to pay higher than the Salisbury however I thought maybe there is a hotel on Kowloon side that has a rooftop cafe or an observatory that we can rent the room (no view from the room) and is cheap or cheaper but you can still get a nice slice of the view if you go up to the roof and hang for a while? I don't want a bar or lounge, just an observation deck or rooftop cafe/restaurant I can take photos from at sunset/night. Suggestions?

by thinkingrich331 Online Now Mar 20, 2012 at 3:11 AM

My Family and I are scheduled to go to Macau-HK this coming May. We arrive at Macau Airport, stay overnight in Macau, then stay in HK for 4 nights and on our last day, go back again to Macau for our flight back home. I wonder where it will be best to book a hotel, considering the following planned itinerary: 1st Night - Macau 1st Day - A.M. Macau P.M. Nathan Road/Kowloon Side 2nd Day- Causeway Bay/Victoria Peak 3rd Day-Disneyland 4th Day-Ocean Park 5th Day-A.M. Shop for souvenir and give aways P.M. Back to Macau for flight I wonder if I can really do this, come from Macau, stay in HK for 4 nights, then back to Macau for my flight back home. Where is the best place to stay, Kowloon side or HK side. On my 2nd day, what is the best thing to do or where is the best place to go? Would I be right to think that it will be cheaper for us, in terms of transportation costs, to stay in HongKong side, Lantau or wanchai area since most of the places I wish to see are in those area and not in Kowloon side? I plan to see night markets, tourists spots and shopping places in HK. Thanks much!

Not penney pincher but would love to see as much as we can of bothe people and places. Suppose taxi is always available but it may not be what you suggest and we would really value your suggestions. was told that there was a bus but we have luggage and would not loke to carry that far - have a wife as well. Seems that Nathan Hotel as no bus service but suggest Kowloon Station and I cannot find that. I would like to go to Mass at the Rosary Church and supose that on Friday night a cab is the way to fly. Was told that the Rickshaw Bus tour is well worth it as is te Red bus tour by day and night. I really need to replace a blazer that i have lost - just unlined but part of me and i was just hoping that there may be a place in Kowloon near the Nathan that may be worth a try. the wife and I are aged pensioners but really like to enjoy ourselves . I have toured China and loved everything about her and hope that I will do the same next year. Any advise you can offer would really be valued kind regards peter

Hello everyone We are heading over to HK from Oct 4th to the 15th and would be very interested in finding a guide. We are not into organised tourist travel, we like to get out and about and find out about the place we are staying and see villages and meet the real people. We don't travel many miles to shop, shop, shop although we do a little shopping to take home. We did try this in KL but ended up with someone who treated us like a business deal. We are easy to get along with and don't mind paying for a good guide. We take care of anyone who takes care of us equally. If you know of anyone who would be interested we would really appreciate it. I have been trying to work out where we are going to stay however I am having some difficulty with the different areas/which is better, etc. So far I have gathered that we want to stay in Kowloon (Mongkok or Tsim Sha Tsui). I'd like to know if anyone has stayed at The Royal Plaza and whether they can comment on the location/property. I have chosen this property as I have been able to find a fantastic Internet price.
