can someone plz tell me hw to reach there from frankfurt....n hw much time will it take !!!
I assume you are referring to the site in the Berchtesgaden National Park, in the Bavarian Alps. You are looking at a trip of around 700 km, so if you are driving give yourself a good 6 to 7 hours. Part of the drive will be on the Autobahn, but you will also get onto some less travelled roads. Public transportation - train from Frankfurt Hbf to Schönau am Königsee, you are looking at 10 - 12 hours.

700 km is certainly too much one way, 450km might be more accurate. I had a look and the closest trainstation seems to be Berchtesgaden or Salzburg, from both places there will be a bus to Schönau. a bit more than 6 hours by train, when you are lucky and also depending on time of the day ! www.bahn.de

You can find train times, details and fares in English here; reiseauskunft.bahn.de/bin/qu... Nearest station is Berchtesgarten. From there you will need to take a bus to Schoenau am Koenigssee. Journey time 6+ hours.

Michael, in that case the routing (which looks reasonable) from my Garmin mapping software is wrong. I've done the drive between Frankfurt and München a number of times and have been down to the Königsee several as well. Frankfurt to München alone is 450 km of driving distance and München to Königsee is another 170 km, so that gives you a 620 km distance. Why the GPS software picks a route that shows 696 km, I don't know. Straight line distance is around 425 km, but the roads don't go in a straight line. I went to the DB website and they gave travel times in the 10- 12 hour range from Frankfurt a. M. Hbf to Schönau am Königsee, depending on the time of day / routing.

Bahn.de does not list Schönau am Königsee as a station for me. It only lists places within the town. Picking one of those at random still gives me travel times of 6+ hours (train to Berchtesgaden or Salzburg, then bus/es).

I dont have GPS and I rather estimate these distances and compare it with distances that I remember from my travels in that area. 450km from Munich to Frankfurt seems quite much for me, BUT OK, maybe I am wrong. I had a look at www.bahn.de and at www.oebb.at and both websites did not show a place named Schönau am Königsee in their database and when I enlarged the map of Schönau here on VT I also cannot see any trainlines, although they are clearly marked in Berchtesgaden, that is just in a distance of 5 km or so. In the morning there are some trains that take between 6:10 hours and 6:45 hours and only in the late afternoon it will be 11 hours or more

I was asking for trains/buses from around 0900, which explains why I got results with 6+ hours.

And google map route planner says 550 km, so it is definitely more than 450 km :-)

"Königssee/Parkplatz, Schönau a. Königssee" that is the name under which this place is listed in www.bahn.de and you will also see in that webpage that the part from Berchtesgaden to Königssee is a BUS and not a train. when you search for "Schönau" this place is not listed at all in the database, only various places with the same name in diff. parts of europe.

I was there last May and took the train from Salzburg to Berchesgaden. The train comes in on one side of the station, you then just walk through the small station to the other side and then there are buses that show up every few mintues to take you to Königssee lake area - it is only 10-15 minutes from the station to the drop off point. While there you can take the ski lift to Jenner Mountain and hike around or take the electric boat out on the lake for a guided cruise. It is really nice up there - wish I could have stayed longer than the day.
