I will be cruising the Rhine on the KD from Bingen to Koblenz in April 2011. I will be driving a car. I want to park the car in Koblenz, ride a train to Bingen and then cruise the KD back to Koblenz. Is this a feasible plan? Is Bingen the best place to board the KD? Is there a better way to coordinate my travel plan?
Bingen is fine, but the famed Loreley is just downstream of Bacharach. You could get on there and still get the most scenery. It's also possible to get off at St. Goar or Boppard, explore one of those towns, then take the train back to Koblenz. It's all up to your personal taste. BTW, be sure to show your train ticket when you buy your boat ticket. It will give you a 15% discount on the boat ride.

Sounds feasible. KD stops at Bingen so that's okay. We visited Rudesheim (A town right next to Bingen)and took a chairlift up a small hill. We got a great view of the Rhine and that was really nice. You may also want to visit Koln Cathedral while you are in the area.
