Is there train service from Kisumu to Kampala? If there is, how can I find out about it? Thanks!
The train no longer goes to Kampala from Kisumu only in the other direction to Nairobi and from there there is another to Mombasa on the coast. I believe Ugandan Railways was bought by a South Africa company last year so there is hope that a passenger service will start up again there soon. While I was there earlier this year there was a rumour that there were plans to continue the railway north from Gulu into southern Sudan, now that would be a hell of a train ride. In April I got a matatu to the border at Busia (it did stop a lot along the way) strolled over the border and jumped in a direct matatu from there.
