hi me and my husband will be at kiruna march 21-30 first 3 days we will be driving to Luleå and taking ice breaker tour then for the remaining 5 days we can drive and do whatever we wish we want to do snowmobile safari, dog sledding , ice climbing and such and were thinking about staying around abisko park or at Björkliden (and combine a day of ski guide as well) the lodge at abisko is not available for these dates - any other recommendations for nice hotel (must have private bathroom) ? also since we will have our own car we can spend those days wherever (reasonable distance) that can offer those services and we can watch northern lights from (hopefully) - so will it be worth driving to Narvik for example? or to any other place in Norway? thanks

Hello. Me and a friend will be in kiruna for a day and will be staying at the ice hotel. It seems that tour packages offered are quite expensive. We were thinking of going to Sámi Siida - Reindeer park and Sámi camp or the Unground mine museum. How do we travel from the hotel to these places and how far is it? We also would like to ride on snowmobile too. Is there any way we can go to these places using snowmobile? Thanks.

I'll be arriving on Stockholm after 18th Jan. and planning to stay there till 13th of Feb! during my time in sweden, I'm planning to visit Kiruna! for much about 3days or so.. I'll be thrilled to see the northern lights too, if the weather works fine enough. one problem is that, I've never been to any places that's colder than -6 degrees. (Celsius) so I'm guessing my trip to Europe will be extremely harsh. especially in Kiruna! Can any of you guys leave a short comments about the clothing? Merry Christmas!
My family of 5 is planning to visit Abisko - Kiruna ICE Hotel followed by Ivalo Kakslauttanen in December. I wonder whether any one is familiar with those places and can recommend an agent that can provide us: 1. guided tour at Abisko and Kiruna, 2. Coach Transfer from Kiruna to Abisko then to ICE HOTEL and then to Ivalo Kakslautanen We are considering our accommodations at Abisko Mountain Lodge, ICE Hotel and Kakslautanen. Any one has any adverse experiences? We were advised to book accommodations first since these are special accommodations which availability is running out fast for a big group of 5 like us. We will arrive in Kiruna airport from London in December. Love to hear from any one in the forum. Thank you.
Hi. I'm Diego, 27 years old and I'm currently staying at the Aurora Hotel, in Esrange. I would like to know if there is any pub or disco in Kiruna. I'll spend the weekend over there and I'd hate to spend it in the room of the hotel :| I'll be at the City Hotel, so I'll be expecting for your tips or invitations :) Thanks anyway
Hi, I am looking to visit Kiruna in late november this year and I'm trying to find out general information such as weather and temperatures, if I need any "special clothing"? How probable am I to see the northern lights? Any other info would be extremley helpful. Thanks
Dear All, Is October the appropriate time to visit Kiruna in order to observe the aurora? Coz we will be in Europe in Early Oct and planning whether we should visit Sweden. Thank you for your reply~~~
Hi, We are a group of 10 people planning to hike the Kungsleden from Absiko to Kebnekaise beginning of August. We are looking for a place to stay over the weekend before we begin our hike. We dont need a town with activities but would like a place thats really nice. Any advise as to whether we should stay in KIruna or Narvik? We were once in Kiruna - nice and small town, but definitely not super pretty... Is Narvik any better? Thanks!!
Hello all ! I'm planning a 4 days trip in the end of February. We are studying in Stockholm and we would like to go to Lappland. Kiruna seems to be the easiest place to reach. We are thinking about using the night train which seems to be cheapest. We would like to do some typical activities such as dogsledding and we would like to have chances to see aurorea boreals... Do you have any tips about this sort of activities ? Do you think going to Abisko National Park for a day worths ? Is it possible to think about some walks around to discover a bit more the national park is it too cold ? We wish we could have a budget around 250/300€ (2500 / 3000 kr SWE) for this trip, train or airplane included... Thanks a lot by advance for your tips ! tack tack
We will be in Nikkaluokta on February 5th 2010. Can anyone tell me whether and at what time buses gu to Kiuna. Thank´s!
Hello everyone! I will be in Kiruna for 5 days in March. Would like to to drive to Abisko and some other areas of interest. How are the roads generally in mid March? I am also thinking about the full day reindeer sledding. We are all in our 50's, is it a rough ride, or quite nice? Thanks for any and all info. Colleen
Hi everybody! I need to send an email to the hostel, but I can't find anything on the web. And the website is just in swedish. Anybody can help me? Thank you very much! Roberto
Hi Could someone tell wich bus I can take to get to the 'Ice Hotel' Is it a special bus from the 'Ice Hotel' or another touristic service? Thanx
Hi all, How cold does it get in Kiruna in early January? We (2 adults and a 4-year-old child) are traveling there from Jan 5-10 2009 and a friend mentioned that we adults will need snowpants or a snowsuit just to walk around Kiruna! If that is the case then I need to start shopping for that immediately. Thanks for your assistance! Shali
Hi all, We are planning a trip to Kiruna in a few weeks (Jan 5-10, 2009) and I wanted to know if we can stay in Kiruna and visit Abisko for the day? Or is Abisko far enough away that I should book a separate hotel in Abisko for the night? Also, if we are in Abisko in the evening, what sort of transportation is there to get back to Kiruna that night? We will not have a car or anything. Thanks in Advance!
Hello, We will be arrivinig in Kiruna (by train) on the 24th December this year. We are hiring a car and will drive North on the same day to our accommodation. Does anyone know if the shops will be Open since this is Christmas eve? Also if there is a large selection of food? We are hoping to buy supplies to cook christmas lunch the next day. Ideally would be great to get a Turkey or something for a traditional roast. Any other tips also appreciated - we also have to book 1 nights accommodation on December 27 - not sure where but our train leaves Kiruna at 5:30pm on the 28th. Thanks
We have 1 hour to transfer from our train at Kiruna Train Station to our plane at Kiruna Airport. Question #1: How reliable are the train schedules to Kiruna from Narvik (Norway)? Question #2: How long should it take us to get to the airport in Kiruna from the train station in Kiruna? Will we make our flight connection?
Hello. Can someone please help me! I need to get from Kiruna to Rovaniemi on April 17th. Are there trains and if so does anyone know the website for these? And if not how about bus routes/timetables? Any help would be appreciated.
Hi all, I just checked the price for the icehotel tour, and it's 295kr for a 30 minutes tour. Can someone tell me that is it worth going? I have posted a quetion about snowmobile in Kiruna, I still cannot find any information about renting snowmobile for a day without joining any tours. Any of you know if there is snowmobile rental up there? Also anywhere for skiing in Kiruna? We are all beginners, so just want to have a taste on skiing that's all, no need to be downhill. And we wonder about hiring the gears? Is it easy to find a place who do that? Thank you very much for your help.
Please, can suggest me a good and honest local Tour Operator or Company or Agency for a week dogsledding in Kiruna/Abisko? TX!!
Hi there, I'm planning a trip to Kiruna in March, and would like to try snowmobile and dogsled, however they are apparently quite expensive to go on both 'tour' at the same time, so we decided to just go for the snowmobile. So we want to know more information about it: 1. can we rent the snowmobile for a few days on our own? or we have to be joining those tours? 2. is it worth joining the tour to see the northern light? or the northern light is easy to be seen so it's not neccessary to join the tour? 3. about the guided tour in ice hotel, how much does it costs? and do we have to book in advance? 4. can we rent a tour guide? anyone know any website? thanks in advance, and i really look forward to visit Kiruna and experience the magical phenonmenon!
Hi all, I am planning to go from Kiruna to Rovaniemi on 22 Dec (Saturday). Does anyone know how to go from Kiruna to Rovaniemi? 1) Is there a direct train/bus going from Kiruna to Rovaniemi? 2) If not, may I know the detailed routes and places which I have to change train/bus? 3) Is there a website showing the schedule for the train/bus? Can I book them in advance? Thanks!
I have only got the next three weekends in Sweden, and would really love to plan one of them to go north and do some dogsledding, ride a snow mobile, try some downhill skiing and perhaps see the ice hotel - is the weather still cold enough at the end of May and where is the best place to go to do all these things on one weekend? Also any recommendations for good value for money companies that run these activities. Cheers!
Hello! From all I've read about Kiruna on the web and on the forum, I chose one of the worst times to go to Kiruna: no Auroras and no midnight sun (I'm a sucker for natural phenomenae!)... Besides the mine and Abisko, what other things would you guys recommend for this time of the year? I'll be there from 15 to 23 of may and I've never seen snow or big amounts of ice (anything bigger than my ice tray is gonna be sooo good!!). I love hiking and generally walking around and meeting people. Also, does anybody know this hostel? http://www.yellowhouse.nu/ Is it any good? Thanks and if you need advice on Brazil, I'm all yours. Cheers! Laura
We will be in Swedent and are thinking about going up to Lapland for a few days. Would be it best to go to Kiruna or Jokkmokk? Also - I have seen reference to Wildlife Tours in the area, but can not seem to find one on the internet. Any suggestions?
