Air Pacific transit stop at Christmas Island

by danielribo Online Now Sep 10, 2011 at 3:22 AM

I'm travelling on the Air Pacific service from Nadi to Honolulu with the transit stop on Christmas Island. Given it's probably the only chance I'll ever get to be in such a remote place, does anyone know if you actually get off the plane? Or will my unique experience be captured with photos from the window of the 737!

The flight information on Air Pacific says that the stop is a technical stop.

A technical stop is usually a stop which is required for technical reasons in an aircraft, mostly for refuelling. Passengers normally are not allowed to disembark as the aircraft just taxies to a remote bay where the refueling is done.

Thanks. I'm a pilot so I do have some idea what a technical stop is, however they are handled differently by different carriers. Just looking for someone with first hand experience of this particular flight.
