Train from Killarney to Dublin or Hire a Driver

by HunterP Online Now Sep 10, 2008 at 5:19 PM

Hello,
My Wife and I will be staying in Killarney for a few days this October before going to Dublin. We are trying to decide if we should take the train to Dublin or hire a driver (we won't have a rental car). The driver is more expensive but will include a tour of the Rock of Cashel. How easy is it to get to travel by train from Killarney to Dublin? Is the Rock of Cashel worth a stop off on the way to Dublin,
Thanks,
HunterP

You could take the train and break your journey at Thurles (Only 15 min away from Cashel). Hire a driver from Thurles to Cashel and back. I don't know if you are allowed to break journeys on Irish Rail, but if not you can buy 2 separate tickets.

    Timetables available here: http://www.irishrail.ie/home/

You will find it difficult to 'hire a driver' in Thurles. You'll have to use a taxi.

www.irishrail.ie will give you train times and details. I doubt you will be able to break your journey.

heritageireland.ie/en/South-... will give you opening times & details.
