Hi all, I shall be on my solo Siem Reap tour for a week in July. I wonder how to travel there economically. I have strong legs and can do 15 Kms a day. I request experienced tourists to guide how I can see attractions there economically, should I use Tuk-Tuks or cars for short distance to Angkor complex or what? Regards, Ashok.
It is possible to hire a bike and travel under your own steam from the centre of Siem Reap to Angkor and Bayon and the others - dead easy!

I have seen many tourist biking by themselves, but if you prefer more comfort rent a tuk-tuk and it will take you anywhere you want.

Nearby temples; tuk-tuk. They are quite inexpensive, longer distances car; BUT you will be there in rainy season if you go in July, so this may influence your choices too.

If the rain would get to heavy for the biking the tuk tuks will load you and the bike...we did that with two bikes...as it is very muddy biking in the rain can be quite difficult in some parts otherwise its a lot of fun!

I went to Siem Reap solo in early July, and got a motorbike taxi to take me around for 3 days. It's definitely cheaper than a tuk tuk or a car. Some tourists do cycling around the sites, it can be done but it's the intense heat that you have to get used to first. For the farther away sites, it's well beyond 15km and you are better off hiring a motorbike taxi.

You don't mention what "economically" is for you but I suggest an air conditioned car. As mim mentions, it will be quite hot and humid during this time of year. (We've done June and July in Angkor). Your car hire will have cold water waiting for you back in the car and the distances and walking through the temples can be daunting - and we're from Miami where the temps and humidity are quite similar. We've done both tuk tuk and car - prefer car. You won't need a guide although most drivers will try to sell you this added service. A good guide book should suffice. Another thing to consider about tuk tuk is the fumes and noise. Homer

Homar: By economically I meant the public transports like "rapid Penang" in Penang or HOHO buses in KL which I utilized to its best. Thanks and regards, Ashok.
