Camping in the Keys

by lindainmontreal Online Now Sep 26, 2004 at 6:47 PM

Hi: We hope to camp in Key Largo or anywhere else in the Keys towards the end of February, first week in March. Can anyone suggest a nice spot for a family of 4? We are looking for a nice tent spot, walking distance to the ocean, not overrun by kids partying for Spring break. Any good State parks? Would they all be booked up already? Thanks for any suggestions! linda

You might try Bahia Honda. Don't know if they are booked up already for tents or not. There's also Long Key which is also a state park in the keys, but I haven't seen that one. If you have a boat, you could go out to John Pennekamp to camp. It's also possible (if you bring everything with you including water) to camp at Fort Jefferson in the Dry Tortugas. Just south of Marathon is Knights Key campground, but it is pretty crowded there, and I don't know how recommendable that is.
