cheap but safe and comfy accomodation required

by andrewinbrid Online Now Nov 30, 2006 at 1:53 AM

I have never visited Africa before - I am looking for somewhere to stay which is cheaper than a hotel yet safe and comfortable.
I also want to be in Kampala itself - central preferred.
My visit is planned for one week arriving Sunday 7th Jan07.
I am male, 55 and fit/healthy visiting a friend and to see the country etc.
Also, how do I get to/from the airport - hotels proivide shuttle services!

Every time I have arrived in Entebbe it has been about 11 at night, so I have always tended to spend the first night in Entebbe itself. I get a (private hire) taxi to the Kidepo guest house have a couple of beers (just to help me sleep you understand) and then after breakfast the next day travel from the taxi park in Kitoro/Entebbe by (Matatu) shared taxi to Kampala.

Never stayed at the Tourist Hotel but you can't get much more central than that. It is also very convenient for the Sax pub across the road a lively establishment to say the least.
