    • Where to stay on LONG trips to Whistler

      Whistler Apr 27, 2013 at 10:42 AM

Thinking of planning a 1 - 2 month trip to Whistler and was wondering if there are any places to stay long term and what my best options for long term lodging would be.

Was also thinking about splitting up some of that time in Vancouver and am curious about travel to/from Whistler and Vancouver.

      Thanks!!

      Butchart Gardens in a Day

Vancouver Island May 11, 2013 at 6:32 PM

We are planning a RV trip to BC this summer and want to go to Butchart Gardens. We will be taking a ferry from Anacortes, WA and want to make sure we will have enough time to see the gardens with travel time included. We have to small dogs that would be staying behind for the day or perhaps put into a kennel if we need more time. Would it be more economical and better to take our car or take a bus/cab or rent a car on the island? Can we do it in a day? Any thoughts would be appreciated. Thanks.

    • West canada on a shoe string with a 4 year old?

Vancouver Island May 7, 2013 at 8:20 AM

Hi, my husband, our 4 year old daughter and myself are thinking about a trip to west Canada (from Ireland). We teach so have July and most of August off work. Although we have loads of time, we would be doing it on a shoe string!! Would like to know what people think; should we a) just focus on Vancouver and Vancouver Island (b) focus on the Rockies © try to do both - although I don't think we could afford it all at once!
We really want to get the 'real Canada' outdoorsy feel and would be staying in hostels (hopefully there are child-friendly ones about!!) any advice/opinions on what we should/could do?

"Odd" Trinket Shops and Inexpensive boat rides

      Vancouver May 8, 2013 at 4:45 PM

Can anyone give me some suggestions on these? Any odd shops that have unique pop culture gift items, vintage or modern -not the run of the mill travel souvenirs? Also, any cool boat rides to Vancover Island someone has taken? It doesn't have to be too long, like a cruise- just something about 20 Can dollars or fewer.

    • Grouse Mountain or Cypress - Capilano Bridge or Lynn Canyon

      Vancouver May 18, 2013 at 9:38 AM

We are 2 couples (in our 60s) and will be in Vancouver for 3 nights next week. We plan to rent a car for one day (weather permitting) for some sightseeing outside of where we stay (which is downtown Vancouver). Originally we planned to go to Capilano park and Grouse mountain - both require an entrance fee of roughly $30 each. After some additional reviews, we learn of the Cypress mountain and Lynn Canyon. Not only admission to the latter is free, both sites offer what we were interested in seeing (a suspension bridge and the view of Vancouver). Could we skip Capilano and Grouse to save money?? while we try to save, we do not want to miss anything and would be happy to pay any fees to maximize our trip experience

      Potentially Moving to Kamloops: Insights?

by Babzz Online Now Mar 29, 2007 at 12:59 PM

Hello, I'm possibly attending TRU this September for 2 years (grad studies). I'd like to hear some input about what Kamloops and the area are like, just general thoughts, things to do, recommendations, anything really. It's tough making such a big decision from across the country. I wish I could visit first, but that's not a possibility. So far I've heard all good things about how beautiful the region is. Many thanks :)

We attended the Two River Junction Musical Revue on September 24, 2006. We greatly enjoyed the production – the individuals who portrayed Laura & Bill were outstanding. Unfortunately, we failed to record/remember the names of the actress/actors who were part of the review. We would appreciate being informed of the names of the six individuals in the roles of: Laura, Billy, the Mounty, the conductor, & Billy’s two accomplices. G. M. & M. P. Aubertin auby@siu.edu

    • What to do ?

by smiler_girl Online Now Jan 10, 2006 at 2:16 PM

Hi Myself and 2 friends arrive in Kamloops at lunchtime and leave the following morning - its Weds March 8th and in the evening we are going to go to the ice hockey game. Never been to one - we are from Australia - and it seems to be the only one that is one at the time we are in a city!! However, what is there to do from when we arrive to the game - just wander around town? I know we don't have heaps of time but is there anything that we should see? Plus where is a good place to get something to eat before the game - a good local place - a few beers and a good meal type of place - with good atmosphere!! Thanks in advance! Tammy

    • Activities around town

by hikamloops Online Now Oct 18, 2005 at 1:33 AM

I work at the old courthouse hostel which sees over 9000 guests a year from all over the world, and I've noticed in the winter months that activites in the town have really lightened. Is there any activites that happen on a weekly basis, or special things that are going on??? If you could please reply so that we can inform our guests, that would be fantastic, thank you! Oh, and is the free 2-stepping lessons at CJ's on Wednesday or Friday... I can never seem to get ahold of them, and I have read that it is on Wednesday, and have heard it is on Friday, could someone clarify.. thanks!

      Places to eat

by Ash59 Online Now Jul 22, 2003 at 10:40 AM

One day to go and we are on our way to the Canadian Rockies! Checking all those wonderful VT member sites that give so much information about this area (Ann75 & Waalewiener to name just a couple) just for those extra couple of tips pointing to places and restaurants that we would not think of going to BUT... We are stopping in Kamloops for one night while travelling through on the Rocky Mountaineer but there is only one tipped restaurant for this place (thanks to Vic5). Has anyone got any favourites that they have been to here? Many thanks for your replies Andy
