    • Cross-Borneo trekking companion(s) wanted!

by RuudW Online Now Feb 10, 2015 at 7:19 AM

      Hello everyone!

I (32, Dutch male, in decent condition) am off to Indonesia soon and would like to do some hiking while there. There is this interesting route in Kalimantan that's intriguing me, and that I'd like to do, which is the cross-borneo trek. And I'm hoping to find some trekking companions!

What: Starting in Balikpapan, it's about 7 days up the river Mahakam into the jungle by boat, then about 7 days hiking through the jungle and across the Muller mountain range, and 3 days to travel by boat to (eventually) Pontianak.

      When: I could start between mid-March and mid-April 2015.

Send me an email if you're interested or if you have a group - doing this or another jungle trek in Indonesia - looking for another participant!
Hoping to hear from you soon! Best regards,

      Ruud

    • From Kuta Kinabalu to Labuan Klambu

by peterjwilliamson Online Now Aug 26, 2011 at 10:39 AM

Hello. I would really appreciate some advice from anyone in the know.

I will fly to Kinabalu from Kuala Lumpar around 20th Feb 2012. I have no time constraints and will be taking around 6k with me.

I have no real plan, but I really want to see the salt AND freshwater Lake Labuan Cermin near Labuan Klambu.

What means of public transport would I have available? Will this break my budget for other countries attempting this - tour guide and pass costs etc? I see some tours online and costs can be nearly £1000 for just a few days! I would be happy I could just reach this place on my own.

I'll be travelling alone and backpacking it. I can live in cheap accomodation and am not really heading for any party scenes. Having to wait for a few days here and there wouldn't bother me in the slightest.

Any info will be greatly appreciated

    • Klotok hire

by PRiches76 Online Now Jun 13, 2011 at 1:47 PM

We would like to hire a klotok for 3 nights, 2 days this August in Tanjung Puting NP. We are going to arrive in Kumai and would like to know if it is advisable to book hire in advance or should we be ok to wait until we are there? We have been quoted £550 for 2 people (food, entry inc), seems steep or am I tight? Also, is this the best way to see the park or are there any alternatives you have tried? Thanks.

    • Western Kalimantan

by reu Online Now Jan 3, 2007 at 10:18 PM

Has anyone visited the western portion of Kalimantan, specifically I'm interested in Gunung Palung National Park outside of Ketapang? Is it accessible? Is it worth visiting over other Orangutan sanctuaries? I've heard these orangutans are "wild" and not rescued. Is it worth the effort to get to such a remote location or would our time be better spent on the east and south coasts? Any feedback would be most helpful.:)

      weather december-february and other things

by picek Online Now Oct 17, 2005 at 2:32 AM

Hello, selamat pagi to all again,

      I need your advice-help again:)
how is the weather like in Sabah and Sarawak from December-February? Lots of rain?

How about prices if you compare that with peninsular Malaysia... is it lot more expensive (accomodation-guest houses, bus, food...etc) in Sarawak-Sabah?

And what is popular (local) food there:)?

Terima kasih for all answers. Saya menghargainya!

      from Pontianak to Kuching

by picek Online Now Oct 2, 2005 at 7:02 AM

      Selamat pagi, dear VTers!
This is my first question at VT forum and I hope one can help me with it:) I am travelling to Indonesia/Malaysia this winter and I have limited time of 3,5 months all together for this trip. First I would like to stay 1 month in Malaysia and then I have to go out of country, because without visa I can be there only 1 month. Then I was thinking about 2 or 1,5 month of Indonesia,so far I haven't decided about where to go there yet as it seems all so huge and the matter of distances is also unknown to me. However, there's a question I would like to ask you, those who are familiar with Klimatan/Sarawak: is there any overland border crossing (official) between the two states? How about travel between Sarawak and Sabah and then return to Peninsular Malaysia?
Thanks for all your answers in advance. Terima kasih!
