Hi there, I am travelling to Kailua in October and staying in a little rental near Lanikai beach. I was wondering if anyone had any experience with kayaking to the two islands in the distance there. They can be seen from Lanikai Beach and I have heard that one may kayak to them? Any tips or experiences with this? Thanks! TJ
Yes! I have kayaked out to the northernmost of the two Mokoluas, the one with the small sandy beach. It's easy to do in an ocean kayak -- especially in the summer when the seas are really flat. I wouldn't recommend it in rough water, as the breakers around the reefs and the wrap-around waves can be daunting.

there are Kayak rentals and wind surfing lessons right there on Lanikai beach.. make sure you walk the beach and feel the wonderful Kailua beach feel... Don't miss the "Shave ice""" also
