    • Hiking in the Bucegi Mountain and Piatra Craiului national park

      Romania May 14, 2013 at 7:16 AM

      Hello,
I am planning a trip to Romania in july, and I encountered a few questions which I am having trouble finding answers to:
      1. I plan to stay one night at cabana Omu and one night at cabana Curmatura during two hiking trips at Bucegi mountain and Piatra craiului, and I would like to know if I must bring with me a sleeping bag (I prefer to travel as light as possible, of course)?
      2. I read that it is important to book my stay in this two cabanas during the summer, and I would like to know how can I do that besides via phone (I don't speak Romanian)?
      3. This is a more general question – do you have a recommended route for 1-2 days at Piatra craiului that starts and ends at Zarnesti?
My current plan is to visit Zarnesti Gorges and hike only to Piatra mica via cabana curmatura on day one, before heading back to Zarnesti in the following morning.

      Thank you,

      Omer

      Hi,

sorry for so many questions... :-/

I am planning also going from Belgrade to Pristina, in Kosovo, by bus. Do you know there might be any problem? I know that it's difficult sometimes to get Belgrade from Pristina, but I am not sure about the other way.

      Many, many thanks again!

      Timisoara Apr 19, 2013 at 8:29 AM

Hi, I am planning a trip around the Balkans at the beginning of March. The last city I'll visit is Athens. Do you know any way to get Timisoara, the city where I currently live, from Greece? Do you know if there is any bus or train from Thessaloniki?

I would appreciate a lot your help! Many thanks.

      Car Rental & Driving

      Romania Apr 23, 2013 at 1:06 PM

Hi - I plan to fly in and out Bucharest airport. Wanted to know more about car rental and driving in Romania
      - Any recommended rental company?
      - Do we need GPS or road signs are easy to navigate?
      - Is it easy to drive around (which side of the road is it?)
      - Are there any specific driving rules to take note of?
      - Is parking generally free or expensive?

      The route I am considering:
Bucharest - Sinaia (Peles Castle) - Brasov (day trip to Rasnov and Bran) - Sighishoara - Bucharest
(i.e. after flying in around noon to head to Sinaia, then visit the sights / attractions, finally from Sigishoara drive back to Bucharest and spend 2 nights in Bucharest)
Please let me know is this a good route or suggest alternative. Thanks!

      Any useful tips appreciated!

      Possible 5-6 days itenary

      Romania Apr 19, 2013 at 2:24 AM

Hi - I am just wondering if someone can share a possible 5-6 days itenary (fly in to Bucharest?) Thought of visiting Romania (first time visit) sometime in August. At this stage only doing very prelim research, would be helpful if someone can highlight places to visit and possible cities to cover, then I can look into it more and ask specific questions.

My area of interest more on sightseeing and taking photos (so I think beautiful scenery and castles are great), architecture etc... not so much on shopping.

Also would it be too farfetched to fly in to Bucharest, fly out from Budapest (so I get to see Budapest too) or just advisable to see more of Romania?

      Thanks!

      Monastery Day Tours

      Suceava Mar 20, 2013 at 6:26 PM

      HI there,
Can someone advice any tour guides for a day tour to the Suceava monasteries in 05-May 2013? As I am travelling solo, I was quoted 500RON which is quite steep. I tried emailing to a few travel agencies but got no response from them. Does anyone know any good individual travel guide with a car that provide a monastery day tour at a more affordable rate?

      Street market

      Suceava Mar 7, 2013 at 1:11 PM

I have heard that there is a very ethnic street market in Suceava, where the farmers come and sell their fruit and veg. I heard it was on Thursdays. Does anyone know if this is true, and if so, where it is?

Iam trying to plan a trip to the romanian moldavia before the cold comes here, so it should be in the next few weeks. Iam in Cluj right now so my idea is something like this: get a night train to Iasi and see the city for few hours, get a train to Suceava (does anybody know if there are buses to do this way, the train cost 149,000leis) and stay at the hostel there for one or two nights, and get some tour to see the monastery (any cheap choices?) and try to find a tour to visit the Happy cementery and Spanta village (any names?) and then come back to Cluj in the night train on a Sunday or something like that. What do you think, it is quick and i know i wont see much but i havent got too much time nor money... thanks ***

hii knowledgeable people :) we plan to go to vatra dornei, for about a week in august. we = 3 adults and one 18 months baby . first night , and last upon return from vatra dornei, will be in bucuresti . here are the questions: 1. can some one recommend a non expensive good hotel with facilities for baby, ( about 3 stars and /or less than 50$ per person per night ) ? 2. what is the distance to vatra dornei ? which day ! train is best to take, R ? A ? , how many hours will it take ? and cost of a ticket in first class compartment ? i guess it has to be via suceava, am i right ? (not enough , and not clear, info on CFR site) 3. can someone recommend a hotel without spa in vatra dornei ? ( 5-7 nights, rooms with bath ) the hotels i found on the internet are only for spa treatments, therefore expensive. will appreciate to receive advice thanks , feli_x

    • Travel: Suceave to Cernauti (Ukraine)

Judetul Suceava Mar 7, 2004 at 3:39 PM

Q: Hi Has anyone driven a car into Ukraine along this route(E85). I am interested in knowing what the border crossing (Siret) is like. Is it a particularly busy crossing? How long would one expect a normal crossing to take? Also, was wondering if anyone knows if English speaking guides would be available in Suceava to accompany one by car(we will have rental) across the border to Cernauti and area? Any thoughts on how one might go about arranging this. Thanks Art
