Hi, I am planning to go to JB in a week. Can anybody give me some advice which transportation is the best and safe to go to downtown from the airport? Thanks!
I would hire a car. There is minimal public transport and it's not that reliable anyway. Also you will look like a lost tourist and may be targeted by dishonest people. If you cant hire a car then use a metered taxi service or hotel shuttle. Also, downtown Jhb? Where exactly are you going?

Well, I found out that I am staying at Holiday Inn Sandton. It's near Nelson Mandela Square?? Is it safe??

The Holiday Inn probably have a shuttle or can organise a taxi for you so I would recommend you do one of those for peace of mind if you don't want to drive. Rivonia is a good area, I recommend visiting Monte Casino which is nearby. But you will definitely need a car if you want to do any sightseeing or else the taxis will cost you a fortune.

getting around sandton,you can try the tuktuks. Its a newly launched alternative transpo in the area. google sandton tuktuk, to get an idea of it. Although montecasino might be out of its radius.
The gautrain feeder buses also run during weekdays around the area,google gautrain sandton bus routes to get an idea of their route.

Thanks everyone. I saw many cute tuktuk, yesterday I went to the Lion park tour which was organised by the hotel. But it was not that good as I expected. I saw many nice shopping malls and this town is just like back home in NZ. So far, no sign of danger! Thank God for that!!

Please from the airport you can use the Gautrain to park station there you are alrweady in Joburg CBD
