Taxi from Jerusalem to Tel Aviv Airport

by Littlered415 Online Now Jul 30, 2009 at 11:49 AM

Should it be easy to get a taxi to take us from Jerusalem to the Tel Aviv Airport? Our tour ends in Jerusalem and we will have to make a 12:40 AM Delta flight back to JFK in New York on the same day. Does anyone know approximately how much this should cost for two people? Also, how long a drive is it to Tel Aviv from Jerusalem? Should it be easy to get a taxi to take us to the airport in the early evening?

Thanks,

The airport is on the road between Tel Aviv and Jerusalem, in Lod actually.

The least expensive and most convenient way to travel from Jerusalem is to use the Nesher sherut (group taxi). You have to call them 24 hours in advance. Tel. 6257227. If calling from outside of the city add the area code 02 in front of the number. If you want to travel on a Saturday, call them on Friday *morning*. They pick you up at the door of your hotel.

Travel time depends a great deal on the hour that you are travelling. 4 - 6 pm can be very s-l-o-w because of the amount of traffic at that hour. When you call them tell them hour that you have to be at the airport (3 hours *before*) your flight time. For a 12.40 am flight you need to be at the airport by 9.40 pm.

When traffic is light, the trip takes about 25 minutes. You don't have to leave Jerusalem in the early evening (during the rush hour), so it will be a short trip.

Getting a private taxi at that hour is also possible, but a lot more expensive.
Nesher sherut costs ~US$12 pp, no extra charge for luggage.
A private taxi can run you as much US$65 - US$75 depending on the number of people and the amount of luggage.

Hope that you enjoyed your tour.
