please could you advise if we can arrive by midday (to see the Riding School show)in El Rocio from Nerja where we will be staying? how long will this trip take realistically? Rosemary
It's a bit of a trek you have there. RAC route planner gives 3 hours 25 minutes and I wouldn't disagree with that. However it is basically all motorway, from Nerja up north from Malaga to join the Sevilla motorway. Getting through Sevilla is not simple, as the motorway does not circumvent it, but dips through it, and can be a bit fiddly. Last time I was there a lot of road works were happening, so they may have improved it. After that it's a simple along and down, El Rocio is right on the main road down to the beach at Matalascañas. We went to El Rocio during the fiesta last June, by pure coincidence not design, as we were staying near Marchena. Thousands upon thousands of traditionally dressed folk on horseback and with ponies and traps, all the length of the road. Pretty amazing. Hope you dont mind sand in your shoes though! Whilst you're out that way try and pop down to Matalascañas just to see the beaches (only about 15 minutes further) and eat. El Rocio juts into Doñana park, so if you like birds, and wild horses grazing in the water/grass just off the village, take a good zoom camera. How did this get in 'Jerez' forum?
