Hi All, I am going to Achi perfecture to study Japanese for a month from mid Mar to mid Apr. Any suggestions for me on fun and interesting places to go (can be anywhere in Japan as long as I can take train or bus there. ), interesting things to try out (I know drinking under the cherry blossom trees is a must do. :D), or even unique food to try out? Am thinking whether to continue travelling after my short course. All directs to$$$$$$ which I lack. Where can I locate some cheap hostel? What is the price of transport like? Heard that its expensive. Thank you so much. Have a great day ahead. Cheers Babybeary
Looks like you'll be in Aichi prefecture during the Spring Festival in Handa. You definitely should check that out. Don't miss it! As for regional food to try, how about some "tenmusu" (Rice balls with shrimp tempura inside)? This popular snack originated in Nagoya. I like the shrimp crackers ("ebi senbei") from that area too. There are many cheap hostels throughout Japan. The local JNTO office will help you find cheap accomodations at most tourist destinations. The trains really aren't as expensive as you might have heard, especially if you invest in a Japan Rail Pass.
