Montego Bay May 14, 2013 at 1:40 PM

Hello, my family will be coming to Jamaica in 2 weeks time staying at Hilton Rose Hall, Montego Bay. we have our children with us aged, 7 and 6 year olds. as we are trying to make this an educational trip as well as a holiday, is it possible to arrange a short school visit as an experience for the children to experience their culture in a local school and also would like to attend a sunday morning service at pentecostal church if possible. I really do hope someone is able to help us. we would be most appreciative and would like to thank you in advance. Mrs Campbell

Prefer not to stay all inclusive.

      Jamaica May 16, 2013 at 1:02 PM

My husband and I have been to Aruba (which we love), and St. Maarten (which was ok), and the resorts we stayed at were not all inclusive. We are very interested in visiting Jamaica, but we prefer to explore islands, eat at different restaurants, and of course relax on the beach - so we aren't all inclusive people. I have read online that Jamaica is safe (just use common sense), and the locals are super friendly, but then you hear through word of mouth that Jamaica is not that safe. Would Jamaica be for us to visit, even if we decide to not do all inclusive? Thanks in advance for your help!

    • Getting to Port Antonio/Kingston

      Negril Mar 25, 2013 at 6:46 PM

I'm visiting Jamaica in May, starting in Montego Bay and then spending a few days in Negril. From there I'd like to go to the Blue Mountains and fly out of Kingston. I know this is a lot of driving! But I'm up for it. Is there a bus, shuttle, tour, or any other cheap form of transportation from Negril to this part of the country? Do you have any recommendations for getting to Port Antonio, and then from Port Antonio to Kingston?

      Thanks for any tips!

We are planning a trip to Jamaica in February 2014. I know this is really far in advance but we have to save $$ to go. How far in advance is too far to buy tickets? What are the lowest prices I can expect to get on a ticket? Is $500 cheap? We would be flying into Montego Bay... Thank you in advance for the help!!

    • Is it safe to rent a car and drive from Kingston to Ocho Rios?

Ocho Rios Mar 10, 2013 at 7:16 AM

I have one day to go from Kingston to a meeing in St. Ann Bay west of Ocho Rios and get back to Kingston. I know the options are to (1) Rent a car and drive (2) take a JUTA (expendive), and (3) take the Knutsford bus and cab on either end. How good are the roads in between and how safe? Doable? It saves a bunch of $$ over the JUTA.

Also, I always bring from my travel to different countries scarfs. Can I buy such things at Sav La Mar market? and last question, how I can get from Belmont to Sav La Mar?

      Which All Inclusive?

      Jamaica Nov 3, 2012 at 11:02 AM

My family is planning a trip to Jamaica in December (just before the peak Christmas season). It looks like the prices for Grand Bahia Principe (Runaway Bay), RIU Montego Bay and Iberostar Rose Hall (not the suites) are all around the same price. I have two kids (4 and 1) and we really enjoy good food (my husband loves authentic Jamaican jerk). Which of the three resorts are recommended? I've also seen the Sunset brand resorts and I'm getting drawn in by the water parks (for the kids), but am a little weary of some reviews I've read about the rest of the resort. Any thoughts?

      Negril Sep 18, 2012 at 5:47 PM

Hi all, I'm going to Breezes Grand in Negril from Jan 10-16, 2013. I was wondering if anyone has information on volunteering in the Negril area, as I'd like to do something off the beaten path while I'm down there. I have activities already planned for the evenings, but my mornings/early afternoons are wide open. Any ideas? Thanks!

Looking for anybody in the states that might be going as well. I have been to the resort we picked before and will be doing a lot of "free" Snorkeling with my wife. If you want to hang out at an all inclusive that has free snorkeling off the beach reply back. Note: Must provide own snorkeling equipment ;)

    • OK Negril?

      Jamaica Jun 5, 2012 at 7:45 PM

Since reading responses from those who have traveled the Jamaica wonderlands, I am considering Negril instead of MB. Talked to sisters and they are OK with it but they still want all inclusive. So probably RIU Paridise since they are all suites and in our price range. I would appreciate any advice here...is this a good hotel? We are easily swayed and will no doubt want to go into Negril for a taste of local culture. Best places for the over 60 crowd? LOL Traveling first week of Sept. We really are fun ladies but it has been a rough year! LOL want a little pampering along with our fun. Do I need to make bus reservations from the airport?
