Any specific recommendations on where to go and who to visit for these adventures? Don't want to get caught in a tourist trap. It would be great if they were not the run of the mill operation, yet still reputable and professional. Thanks in advance. Belleffh

My wife and I are planning a move to Florida and I am getting all the input I can about boating on the river vs. on the intracoastal. Being that we are moving from the North East, and have enjoyed the surroundings of Narragansett Bay and destinations from Cape Cod down to Long Island, NY, we are wondering if there is a match for us down in Florida. Our boat is a 38' Cruisers Yachts, aft cabin w/ fly bridge and 16 ft. bridge clearance. We are looking for a house in between Jacksonville and St. Augustine. ( My Wife loves the Conch House Marina.) Our boating style is as follows: I'd rather be close to my boat and further from work. We currantly live 5 min. from our boat. Many days we go there after work just to sit and enjoy the view and have dinner. Sometimes we go for a sunset cruise on a week day evening. Short cruises in our area are easy due to all the close places to grab a hook in a cove and relax. If you Google Maps "warwick cove, RI" you will see where we are. Occasionaly we go for a cruise to nowhere just putting along. A place to anchor at the far end of such a cruise is always nice too. Now... a place to set hook is important because no one likes being bounced around by current, waves or the passing idiot who can't slow down. Quiet, calm, tranquil places with flat water and low wind are high on the list and pretty easily obtainable in our area. We seek the same in our week end journeys, just further in distance. I realize that the great distance between the intracoastal North end at the river to the lower area of St. Augustine is probably a day trip to go from one end and back. ( is that a good estimate?) I also realize that the same applies to the river North near Mill Cove, to the river Southern near Mandarin and Fruit Cove. We also like to swim off the boat a lot and don't want to worry about what may be in the water with us :) We obviously have to pick a marina or waterfront home on the river or on the intracoastal... we can't have both. Any information you can offer or opinions are greatly welcomed and appreciated. We're gathering info from as many sources as possible to make our final decision.
My husband and I will be visiting Florida and we are thinking of staying at the new Sleep Inn and Suites on Ramona Blvd. one night and going to the Market Place Flea Market on Ramona Blvd. Could you please tell me if this is a safe area? Or is the Comfort Inn on Airport Road in a safer area? Thank you so much for your input.
Hello We will spend few days in Jacksonville in October before going on a cruise. We were wondering if there is a place near Jacksonville where our kids can watch or ideally swim with dolphins. Can you help ? Thanks
I work w/ au pairs (young adults who come from different countries to live w/ a family and take care of the children) and would like to know if anyone knows of a place to charter a boat to go out and see the whales? My group is relatively small as is the amount of money we can afford, but these girls are very interested in doing this and I would hate to disappoint.
Is there a small park near the Omni?
Hi - I travel to Jacksonville regularly and love the place. Next time I would like to bring my wife and stay on for a few days as a vacation. I would love to stay out at one of the beach, ideally in a place overlooking the beach or backing on to it. However don't think I can afford some of the prices I have seen. Anyone know of anywhere, can be 30 miles north or south of Jacksonville as well, where you can stay out at the beach? Thanks in advance
Ok, VTers. I've got a challenge for you. I've lived in New York City and Chicago, I've traveled through Europe, Asia and the US. Everywhere I go, I eventually sniff out great local food. Whether it's satay from the street carts in Bangkok or sweetbreads from Rathbuns in Atlanta, I eat it all. Sadly I have recently found myself in a swirling blackhole of TGI-Mc-Chilis; Jacksonville, Florida, USA. Can someone, ANYONE, please point me in the direction of a decent local restaurant in this town? I don't care if it's five star fine dining or a seafood shack that looks like it's about to tumble into the intercoastal or a backwoods smokehouse pumping out bar-b-qued opossum. Oysters, sushi, carpaccio, fish tacos, burgers? There must be a must-have here. There must. Isn't there one everywhere?
what hotels in the jacksonville area allow smoking in the room
Hello! Three questions, really: 1) Are the beaches at Amelia Island as good as those of Sanibel Island, neither of which we've visited, in terms of having water which is low, warm, good for kids? 2) Any great, inexpensive places to stay that you know about? e.g., 100/night? 3) How long does it take to get to Amelia Island from Jacksonville Airport, and do we need to rent a car? Thanks for your help! All best, Ella
I would like to know if anyone has a recommendation for travel to and from the Gator Bowl from the Wingate by Wyndam Jacksonville at Lenoir Drive. We have 7 in our party, and since there is no parking available for cars, and we fear that the shuttle will be a nightmare, we need some advice for econimical travel while we are in Jacksonville. Thank you very much
When are the illuminaries scheduled for Avondale?
I will be on holiday in Florida in December and can anyone tell me how long should I allow to get from Orlando To Jacksonville Stadium to see the Colts game on December 18th. I will be driving a hire car and have heard that it is best to park & take a shuttle bus to the stadium rather than drive all the way in. Is this the best option?
I would like the telephone number of the gift room to make sure I can purchase an item before I drive all the way from St Augustine.
How much is it for 14 people for all the water parks and rides?
I will be driving to St Augustine from up north and expect to pass through Jacksonville around noon or 1 pm. Which route do you recommend that I take to avoid traffic backups? Jim
